Gutpile, does that thing work in blue jeans pockets? Looks more like Dockers style thing.

I concur, and in fact, have just ordered my 4th holster. This will be IWB for my Government. Model

Here's my preferred carry for my 2 J-frames. I carried one or the other type of holster for 24 years, both on and off duty , with the LAPD.

Is that an older Bob Mika holster on the left? I have seen some of his older pocket holsters that don't have the rubberized section applied as his current holsters have. I know he used to make them for the LAPD when he served on the force there....I wonder how the holster is sans rubber on the side.

Yes, cdr, that's an older Mika that I bought at the Academy store years ago- Mika was still a SGT 2 working tactics then. Great guy.

Nice!!! Still looks like new. There is no better person to deal with than Bob Mika IMHO. His work is superb and a bargain to say the least....$18.95 for a custom hand made pocket holster is incredible.

Thanks for the great thread. I was faced with the same question. Just ordered the Mika pocket holster. Will give it a shot.

He's running a little behind lately. The flooding hit his town,(he's the Police Chief there). I've got an IWB on order. I've heard nothing but good comments on his products.

What kind of grip is that on the left?
Looks nice.

Hi "Bubbiesdad"
Those grips were made by the late John Hurst, an LAPD cop and Academy firearms instructor. Here's another photo of my 649:

Those grips are so close in design as to be nearly identical. Hurst may have something there over Hogue (also retired LAPD) with the checkering in the palm area. How about that. LAPD grips. They certainly do improve the handling and control of a J-frame. Finally. something out of California the rest of the nation can cling to besides lettuce, tomatoes and salmonella.

Casingpoint, I use it with jeans, Dockers and kakhi shorts. It just seems to work everywhere. I noticed that the illustration you used appeared to be a Walther PPK? I've never seen that one. I use it with a snubby Smith J frame.

Thanks, gutpile. That was just a photo off the net. Cops Plus site, I think.

flop-shank, California also gave us Bo Derek. And it has been awhile in that respect also...

I had John Hurst to make grips for both a square butt K-frame Smith and a round butt J-frame back in the mid-seventies. They are very nicely done.

John Hurst and Guy Hogue were long time friends and LAPD officers. Both reportedly started out "wood-working" in their garages. John taught Guy HIS craft, thus the strong resemblance between the two products.

I discussed all this information with Guy Hogue's son at the NRA Annual meeting in Louisville recently and he confirmed what I ALREADY knew about them and their early grip making days.

Thanks for that, Captain38. As they were both cops making gun grips, their "research and development" efforts appear to have resulted in excellent, if not superior products.

Can't go wrong with a Mika pocket holster. It stays put and is very easy to reholster. His IWB is the cats pajamas too!
