Do all pocket holsters for SW m36 2" snubbies also fit the Colt DS snubnose? Or does it depend on the holster?

Also, do any of you have a strong favorite pocket holster for a snub nosed revolver J or D frame?

Some will/some won't. My Colt Cobra fits n my DeSantis "Nemesis" pocet holster and I'm sure it would also fit in a Bianchi or Uncle Mike's as well.

I would think that the leather ones, which are usually form fitted (on one side) to the revolver, would be too snug.

I would expect for the tendency to be for them to NOT be interchangeable. The DS is a bigger gun with a bigger cylinder than the 36.

It would depend upon the holster, but if there was ANY chance of having any retention for the 36, I doubt it'd hold a Colt.

I routinely carry a 2" 36 in a Desantis Nemesis. There are better pocket holsters, but it's certainly good enough that I have no immediate plans to replace it, either with another pocket holster or an IWB. Contrast this with my almost IMMEDIATE replacement of a Bianchi IWB for my Glock 19 with a Don Hume 715M.

As has been said, "It depends . . . ."

I've found that Mika pocket holsters for a 36 fit a DS very well. I've heard (from a knowledgeable friend whom I trust) that Mika's DS pocket holster is on the large side, and am happy to use my Chiefs version for the Dick Special. I've been able to use hard suede DeSantis pocket holsters for the CS with the DS - it appears to have been made with the generic idea of "snub-nosed .38s" in mind. The non-fitted Nemesis holsters should work as well. I've had some custom-made hard leather pocket holsters for a CS that are fitted and would never take a DS.

My favorite pocket holsters for the J Frame are the Kramer Leather & an Old Uncle mikes IWB with the clip removed..
You'll find the Colt Detective Special & the Ruger SP101 2 1/4" will take the same holster as there the same size..
I've had both the Ruger & Colt but now carry a J Frame..

The six-shot DS cylinder can use the same speed loaders as the K-frame Smiths. It is a bigger gun . . . and is as close in size to a K-frame as it is to a J-frame.

+1 on Mika Pocket Holsters. No print, no stick and very reasonably price. ADD to that great service and it's a no-brainer!

Tom, the cylinder is only barely larger on a D-frame than a J-frame. I've posted pix here before with measurements.

A Desantis Nemesis meant for a J frame will work for a DS in a pinch, but not all that well and won't likely be entirely satisfactory. You might as well just cram it into one meant for a Baby Glock (which also will work for revolvers, sort of, since the Desantis are somewhat generic).

I wasn't satisfied with the results, and simply went with a hobo rig - cardboard, Gorilla tape, and a tensioning #64 rubber band. CheezIt boxes work well. This was the same method that I used for holstering my Model 12-3 when I had it and what I use with my Walther PP. It's the easiest way to get a pocket holster for less popular frame size guns.

One of the alloy frame Colts might work better in a Nemesis, I don't know.

K frame speedloaders do indeed work for a D frame Colt, at least HKS ones do, but not perfectly. HKS makes ones specifically for the Colt D frames, and these are the ones that you want if at all possible. The use of K frame speedloaders was most common in the days when people carried a 4" K frame as their primary and carried a DS as their BUG. The K frame speedloaders could be used as an emergency reload in a pinch.

IIRC, the HKS "10" worked better for the Ds than the "new" "10A." BTW, I keep a "D" backed up with a "10" on my nightstand for my DS. (I have both "10"s and "10A"s floating around the house, and the "10" works better with the Ds.) GatorFarmer is totally right about the fit being less-than-ideal, though, and his explanation of the "why" of it all certainly makes sense.
