Pocket Holsters

I already have some Mika's, but I would like some opinions on the Desantis Super Fly for a J frame.

I carry a J frame in a DeSantis Nemesis. It stays in the pocket and the gun comes out easy. A great holster at a great price, normally about $20.

I carry my 642 in one. Sometimes I forget its in there. Also protects the weapon real well. I wear Car Hart carpenter pants, the kind with the double knee and thigh which conceals it well. You won't be disappointed.

Mika's pocket holsters seem too thick...for me at least.

I carry my 642 in a Wild Bill's pocket holster, my Kel Tec P11 in Side Guard pocket holster, and my Colt .25 in a Safariland pocket holster. Not all at the same time of course.

I CCW my J frame in a Galco pocket holster. I love it. They come in cowhide and horsehide. I currently have the cowhide version, but I should be receiving a horsehide version in about a week. I'm going to use the best of the two.

I recently ordered a Kramer pocket holster because of all the rave reviews I have heard about it. I should get it in a week or so...I'll give a report then.

I also have a canted "No-See-Um" made by http://pcsholsters.com/catalog_item_NUC.html that should be arriving about the same time as the Kramer.

Why two different types you may ask? Well...I ordered the "No-See-Um" for EDC as my BUG in my left front pocket and the Kramer will serve as my primary carry holster (for short trips and light clothing detail) in my right front pocket.

I've been carrying a S&W J frame M60 and M36, 1 7/8" barrel, every day, 24/7 for five years now. At first I used a no name "rough out" leather pocket holster and a couple of Uncle Mike's pocket holsters. The Uncle Mike's proved to be too soft and really didn't hold their shape.

I was in a police supply store in Tulsa about two years ago and found this Bianchi "Pocket Change"

Once I tried this, I never went back to anything else. I'f I remember right it was $14.95. It was a real bargin and it is the best pocket holster I've ever tried.

That's what I use when I know I'm going to have to disarm a lot (Post Office, posted businesses, restaurants with liquor licenses, etc.). I just take my Model 36 out of my pocket, holster and all and lock them in the glove compartment. When I exit the CPZ, I just put all back in my pocket.

The Superfly, if memory serves, is a bit stickier than the Nemesis. It's designed to stay in the pocket no matter what. I never had a problem with the Nemesis coming out at a bad time though.

I used to use UM's, but for a few bucks more, the Nemesis is possibly a better deal.

But then, some cardboard, rubberbands and duct tape work about as well as anything too. I like the cardboard from SpongeBob CheezIts boxes.

You will have a hard time beating the Desantis nemesis/Superfly. I have tried all kinds of pocket holsters and spent a lot of money questing for the best pocket holster and for some reason, I always go back to the nemesis for J pocket carry. The superfly is a thicker version of the nemesis but you can always remove the thick flap panel on the Superfly and you will basically have a nemesis. I say buy one and don't look back!

It's all pretty personal. I tried the Nemesis and didn't care for it. The one I settled on is a Pocket Concealment Systems Black Bird. K&D has some pocket holster offerings I like the look of but haven't personally tried yet.

I use an Uncle Mike's Pocket Holster daily for my J Frame Centennial, and a Galco Horsehide pocket holster for my Seecamp .32ACP. I got a DeSantis Nemesis free last year that I've got stored in a drawer for the day the Uncle Mike's dies. The Nemesis seems to fit better in a jacket pocket than the Uncle Mike's.

I have a nemesis pocket holster for my j-frame 340 M&P. It seems sort of thick and large in my front pocket? Are all pocket holsters this thick and also it seems large does anyone trim these down? Thanks, Greg

Spine60: I have a Galco pocket protector in cowhide. It's not too thick at all. I recently ordered the Galco horsehide pocket holster, but it is too big in my pocket. You can go online to see the pocket protector. By the way, I see you decided on the M&P340. I suggested that to you in another post when you were considering the 340PD. Nice choice. I love my M&P360.

And here we have another offering but it's not inexpensive ($120) - Mitch Rosen makes the Pocket Softy for J frames (and small autos too). I have one for each and it's very comfy and well-made. That's a 340PD in a Pocket Softy.

On the side facing away from your leg there's one very thin layer of neoprene-backed suede stitched on top of the leather. That layer makes it soft on the outside, and it breaks up the outline of the gun.

On the leg-side of the holster you're seeing the tooled leather. This revolver holster is about 2 years old and is used daily. I would imagine it's going to last a long time.

On the revolver holster there's a plastic "hook" to catch your pocket when you draw but I don't think it's needed as the suede does a pretty good job of holding the holster in the pocket. No hook on the smaller auto model. That's a 6+1 Rohrbaugh 9mm in a Mitch Rosen Pocket Softy. The Rohrbaugh is smaller than the 340PD and it sits deeper in the pocket.

I am using the DeSantas Nemesis and feel it is much too large in my pocket. A friend has an Uncle Mike's #3 but it seems to come out of the pocket too easily upon draw. Maybe I should just trim the nemesis, has anyone done thay?? I have a 340 M&P, Greg

I EDC a 642. I have a Disantis Nemesis, a Superfly, a Bianchi Pocket Change and an Uncle Mikes. Each fits differently in different styles of trousers and jeans. I use the one that conceals best in the pair of pants I am wearing at the time. I don't like keeping a pocket gun in leather due to body heat and perspiration. Gun rests in an area of the body that stays warm! All of my belt wear are leather or Kydex however.

well I don't pocket carry but I had an idea, I keep hearing about comfortable holsters but they slip out of your pocket and I had an idea, apply a little griptape to the holsters side, griptape is used on the tops of skateboards to give traction during air type tricks, it has glue on one side and basically sandpaper on the other but won't peel off easy, if you try it let me know how it works

This is actually an old trick already with loops of duct or other strong tape. Many pocket holsters now come with a rubbery grip section also.
