I’m quite fond of the size of my Glock 42 for pocket carry. However, hand issues (ganglion cysts?) have reduced my hand strength and racking even the G42 can be a task. I foresee myself selling my handguns and getting a S&W EZ9. I’m wondering if S&W will ever produce something pocket sized in the EZ series similar to the size of the Glock 42.

If you believe you have ganglion cysts you need to see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hands and have them taken care of, or what the problem really is diagnosed! I have had several ganglion cysts on both hands and they never caused any real problems except the first that was extremely painful while driving as it was in contact with the steering wheel.

From my experience there have been no other issues except they were terribly annoying. I have one currently on the left index finger flexor tendon that I will probably not worry about.

If you are having hand strength issues it is probably not due to ganglion cysts!

A light slide means a stronger recoil spring. Is going to be harder to rack the slide of a smaller gun than a larger one. Going from 380 to 9mm is also going to make for a harder to operate gun. If you are OK with 380 now you should consider the 380 EZ over the 9mm. Or at least try to find a store that has both in stock and let you rack the slides to compare.

I agree with Alk8944 that you should see a doctor to find out what is really wrong. Looking on the internet I was once convinced I was developing Dupuytren's contracture but my doctor said it was probably cysts due to the location and my being able to hold my hands flat. That was 5 years ago and they haven't got worse. I have a different doctor now and want to see what he says when I go in for my next physical, my previous doctor was not certain about his diagnosis. One of those "Let's keep an eye on that" sort of things.

Whatever they are they are not currently bothering too much but contributed to my selling a S&W 69. I really liked the gun but with full power 44 magnum ammo one or two cylinders was all I could stand. I mostly shot weak magnums and 44 Special and it didn't make sense to pay twice per round compared to 38/357 since I have no real need for 44 magnum power.

Age old conundrum I heard many times as an instructor and/or dealer . . . "Where can I get a self defense pistol I can carry in my pocket that weighs less than a pound, holds 17 rounds, hits like a 44 magnum and has light enough recoil for my 98 pound grandmother ?"
Okay . . . that's 'somewhat' an exaggeration on my part, but you get the idea . . .

Actually, I think manufacturers/designers have done wonders in most of these areas, but you can't negate/change/ignore the laws of physics. And Schumer and his brain dead minions would be apoplectic at the advent of Star Trek like phasers/plasma weapons were it even feasible.

The search goes on and continues to disappoint . . . ;)

I am resigned to the notion that from here on 380 is my best bet because of my 78 year old arthritic hands. That said, I have found the Sig 238 to fill that role exquisitely.

The 238 is an all metal gun weighing in at a minuscule 16 oz., small in stature and almost non existent recoil. At one time Sig offered about 8 different models, but now there is only one. But there are still many ways to spruce up the model. Racking the slide is extremely easy and can even be done with the safety engaged. It is expensive but it comes with 2 mags and night sights.

I love my 238 and it’s a gun you should consider since you’re ok with 380.
