Pod coffee machines

I will buy the cold brew stuff from Sam's - I like a cup in the morning. Not a warm coffee drinker unless real late at night or I have a cold.

Wife has a Nespresso, and she like it. I think we are on year 5 with it.

We have a Black & Decker 12 cup coffee machine that has never given us a lick of trouble in over twenty years. We do run white vinegar through it every other month or so when it begins to slow down noticeably or requires more than fifteen minutes for a full brew. It gets used at least twice a day minimum.
I have used the pod machines on occasion, they have one at the bank I frequent. My wife got me started by hitting the coffee machine the minute she walks in, I tasted her coffee and found it pretty good. We have never found an interest in making coffee any other way than a pot at a time. On the mornings when I am home in the morning which is four out of seven I make a pot of strong coffee, my wife and I each get about two large cups and sit and have our morning coffee. On the mornings I am at the rifle club which is three I make her a pot of 1/2 strong caffeinated coffee and 1/2 decaf, she drinks that through the day and almost always makes another pot of decaf for herself which she will drink into the evening. I only drink coffee before noon.

I’ve used everything from French press to percolator had the $200 programmable drip a tassimo and a keurig ,most of the gimmicks
Now I just use instant
I love my Nescafé in the morning
Microwave my mug of water for 2 mins
Add a level table spoon of instant coffee , watch it boil and make a froth ( if it doesn’t the water isn’t hot enough ) mix in a couple spoons of sugar
Instant morning maker

For a pod maker at work, I use a Nespresso. The machine is actually made by Breville, but most of them seem pretty good quality. The Nespresso pods aren't as diverse, inexpensive or commonly available as the Keurig pods, but if you drink espresso they are really pretty good. At home, these days, I use a French press.

Stopped at the nearby Goodwill this evening. They had an unusually large inventory of maybe two dozen coffee makers of different types, including some Keurigs, mostly appearing nearly unused. $5 each. We are not coffee drinkers, so no interest in buying any of them. But I do find weekly visits to the Goodwill to occasionally be very rewarding.

My oldest daughter is a co-manager of the local Goodwill.

It is a treasure trove.
It can be. I bought a nearly new B&D Sabre saw two weeks ago for $2. And I needed one, my old one quit. Many years ago I knew a guy who found an authentic Flying Tiger leather flight jacket at a Goodwill for a few dollars. No idea what he ever did with it, but he showed it to me once.

I was given an original Kurieg earlier this year from a lady that passed away. I keep it in my reloading shed using refillable filter. It works great, just changed the filter out last week.

I gave up on coffee makers. Now I buy cold brewed cold coffee from the chill box at the grocery store. In the morning, pour a cup and microwave it two minutes. Costs about $0.75 per cup. Each cup as fresh as from a new brewed pot.

Years ago a Mr Coffee would last years and be trouble free. Now that I have gone to pod machines because I only drink one or two cup s in a morning and they are very handy for that. However I have found that all of the many ones I have owned over the years they never last more than a year If I am lucky. My second Keurig this year is starting to give me problems. Last year a Keurig did last almost a year so I bought the stuff Keurig said to use to descale the thing. Never worked again. I have owned other brands and they did no better. I even bought a fancy high dollar one with a programable screen that did all kind of stuff. It lasted 3 months. Anyone using one that is giving them long service and what is the brand? Consumer Reports likes the Keurig but does admit that they are not the most reliable but didn't point out which were.
My first Keurig lasted around 10 years or so using it heavily. My newest, smaller Keurig is going into its 3rd year with an average of 3 cups daily.

My Keurig is now 10 years old. I clean it roughly 2 times a year. It recently started making funny noises, but still makes coffee. I only make 2 large cups everyday.

I have a Cuisinart combo that has been going strong for over ten years. I do use the pod side fairly often.

Commercial Keurig models running filtered water, flogged daily. These tend to hold up much longer.
One at home, one at the office.

On my second Keurig, the first lasted a good number of years, I don't even recall when I got it. The second one is doing ok but it has a "descale" light. So I did but the light did not go out. I googled and that is a common fault.

When this one fails, I will get an electric kettle and dig out my simple pour throughs.

Never had one of those 'fancy' coffee makers...

Mine is a percolator about 40 years old on the gas stove. Boils at about 220*...Don't spill it on your lap...Or anything else !
