Poll: Are you a cat person?

Numerous complaints about litter boxes. I have mine down the cellar. Leave the cellar door cracked. The cat knows where it is located and does his thing.

With todays new litter compounds they are deodorized and clumping. Easy clean up with no odor. Clean the box once a day and all is well. Civilized, as in almost human.

On the other hand.....dogs!!!! Look out the window often and see the "neighborhood dog walkers" letting fido do business on my front lawn. They always are looking up at the sky as if to say "what a wonderful day it is". Politely asked a lady the other day if she could not have her dog do his business on my front lawn. She replys...."Oh it's OK I have a dog baggy". Picks up half the mess and walks away. The other half is smeared into the grass.

Owners fault...not the dogs, but at least a cat doesn't need to be taken to the bathroom.

As a kid we had a really cool cat that disappeared one day. As I recall it showed back up a month later (or so), skinny as heck, and it died a couple days later. Guessing it got locked in somewhere. Poor thing. When first married, we had 2 cats. Both really nice. One died of feline liver cancer and we had to give the other to a neighbor when we moved across country. No cats since then.

Mom was allergic to dogs.. Dad was allergic to cats.. so they claimed.. never had anything but fish growing up... accepted that pets should be short term and flushable.. of course Grandma had barn cats on the farm and dogs in the house... Loved going to the farm... and Tiny was a basinji and couldn't bark... but if you whistled & howled enough he would sing along.. until the silly grown-ups said to knock it off... then off to the barn to look for kittens in the hay loft ... still remember Grandpa grabbing kittens and squinting them in the face while milking cows... what a fun memory.. thanks

I love dogs and most dogs take an immediate liking to me. In fact, its extremely rare for me to run across a dog that doesn't like me. We get along just fine. :D

I have a strange relationship with cats. Some will tolerate me, but most hate me with a passion. Very few actually like me.

My former girlfriend had both a dog and a cat. The dog and I hit it off right from the start. We were best friends. :D
The cat OTOH took quite a while to warm up to me. Eventually, he came to tolerate me and would even play. But it was a one sided relationship. He never really showed any kind of love.
When GF and I would cuddle up on the couch, he liked to sit on the back of it right behind my head. I always suspected that this was so he'd be in easy striking distance.

Dogs have family.
Cats have staff.

I found a small black kitten in a Sam's parking lot many years ago, laying in the shade under a truck's tire. He was mouthing off is why I even found him.

Brought him home and kept him inside for over 18 years. He had a rolled up sock that he would go fetch if I told him to. He was always waiting by the back door when I came home from work, fussing that I was gone so long.

At night when I went to bed he would curl up under my left arm (I'm a back sleeper - all night), and most often be there when I woke up. He was my best little buddy, and I miss him as much as any of the many many dogs I've had over the years. Yep, I like cats just fine.

I like cats, in general, but like anything else their "personalities" vary wildly from individual to individual, so with some cats, uh… not so much. I am allergic to cat dander, so I can't tolerate being around them for very long. Dogs almost invariably I like, and I have no allergy problems with them. On a case by case basis, the odds hugely favor dogs. Mostly, I like other people's cats. ;)

Definitely a cat person/family. I like dogs if they point and retrieve birds.

Highpockets is rubbing against my legs as I post this. Most affectionate animal I've ever been around and makes me laugh several times everyday. He's one of five resident felines - presently.

Outside cats I can tolerate. I ignore them, yet they always seem to like me, but shy away from other people. I've never touched my barn cat, but she insists on following me around like a dog. A Grey Fox adopted me last year, and is always close by watching, but too wary to get close to the barn.

Well I feel better knowing you guys like your cats. Dogs are kinda dumb. More like me I guess.
