Poll: Are you a cat person?

Cats...It depends on the cat, We've had the best cat ever and we promised to try not and replace him. I do prefer them to dogs for many reasons. Primarily a cat doesn't need you. Cats are supreme predators, not quite as good as birds but close. I was hooked on cats early and will never forget the acrobatic nabbing of a robin off an overhead branch of an apple tree by our little cat while feeding a litter of kittens. She sprang into action by charging the tree, leaping up to hit the trunk, take another lunge upwards, then launch herself backwards, grabbing the robin off the branch with her paws and mouth, complete the backward flip landing on her feet with robin in mouth to trot off to feed. Dogs do neat tricks but as hunters they need a group, foxes and coyotes are tricky hunters but cats pull down animals two to three times their weight and then leopards pack it up into a tree to keep lions and hyenas from stealing it.

If I was somehow "cured" of my disabilities, I would have a dog about five minutes later, and would still be living in my house. I really miss having a couple around. The cats are fine, but they just aren't the same, kind of like living with aliens, where a dog is like a hairy person who can't talk.

It would have to be the right cat. Most seem to have a thing for scratching and biting. Growing up we had a male cat that was the exception. Super mellow, I don't remember him ever scratching me.

Are you a cat person?, you asked. Why yes, yes I am and thank you for asking.

If you don't like cats or prefer another type of pet, that is fine too. Comments about shooting cats, using them for bait and such are not only stupid but disrespectful of others. There is absolutely no valid reason for those kinds of posts.

Used to hate cats till I got married in 1970 and the wife brought her cat. Long story but do to a almost fatal fall on a construction site that cat and I got real close in the time I was at home recuperating. I wrote about this here a few years ago.

Since then we have had at least one!:D Them we went to 3 Maine Coon Cats and then due to a problem inherited our sons two Maine Coons for about a year. All were neutered males and for the most part got along well together. You have not lived till over a 100 pounds of cats decided to have a run through the house event. Get your feet up!:D

Now sadly all coons are gone and we rescued a 13 YO cat from a no kill shelter. He was already there 6 months and at his age he probably would have had a miserable time in the about 2'X2' cage he spent most of his time in. No way to end a life after living with a loving home till his owner went in nursing home.

We have now had him 3 years and his quality of life is much better at our rural house.

All our cats are a 100% indoor, with the wildlife we have outside its the best option!

As my gf (she of the two "magnificats", Charlie & Izzie, who have graced these digital pages several times) would say, "There will be many bis-cu-its for you in heaven." She says that when they have crossed the rainbow bridge, she will be a regular at the local Humane Society.

In our case it will likely be this:

My daughters young cat.
A friend of hers neighbor threw it outside saying he didn't care what happened to it.

This is a prime reason I have come to spend as much time as possible with my animals and less and less time among human waste. If you decide you don't want an animal, it's OK, but it isn't that hard in most areas today to find rescue organizations on line that will foster animals to keep them from just being dumped.
It's a wonderful thing your daughter did, taking it in and loving it. Beautiful cat.

Cats have their personalities, I've met plenty who were unfriendly and ran away, or aloof and standoffish, crabby, selfish, self centered, inconsiderate-just like a lot of people. I tell people that cats are often better than wives or girlfriends. If they get tired of you, they just leave. They don't call the cops on you, file for restraining orders, drain your bank account, tie up your assets, bad mouth you.

You don't know for sure that your cat doesn't badmouth you.
