1. Yes

2. No

3. Maybe

4. Only when you cut it off to 2 inches

Sir, my own somewhat arbitrary dividing line is that 3-inch guns and shorter are snubbies and 3-1/2 or longer are not.

This is based mainly on .357s I've owned. I found no discernible difference in recoil, noise, muzzle flash, or accuracy between my 2-1/2-inch Model 66 and my 3-inch Model 13. Similarly, there was no real difference between my 3-1/2-inch Model 27 and my 4-inch Model 28.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Only if you are Jimmy Durante. I would not think of a 3" barrel as a snubbie. YMMV

To me "snub nose" means "we chopped is as much as we could" so 3 inches is a short-barreled revolver but not a snub. (2.5 is just nit-picking.)

I think it depends on the frame size. A 3-inch on an N-frame is a snub, on a J-frame it's not.

This is basically where I stand.

I suppose anything with a "shorter than standard" tube could be considered a "snubbie." However, I think the standard should be a "shorter than standard" ejector rod. In which case, a 2.5" barreled M19 would qualify but a 3" barreled M13 would not.

Don't know where the standard came from, but in the "undercover" matches I shot for years the line seems to have been drawn at 3" or less. Frame size was not an issue, the criteria was solely on barrel length.

Aesthetically, I would have to agree that a 3" "N" frame is a snub but don't personally consider a 3" "J" frame to be so.

Po-tay-to, Po-tah-to . . . :D

The SHORTEST barrel length available in a particular model is a snub. If you have a 3" but a 2 1/2" is available, IMHO you do NOT own a snub. If the shortest barrel available is a 4", a snub in that model is not manufactured......

Strange that you ask since I've been going to my local haunts looking for a snub-nose in a 2". I snubbed any 3" revolvers, pardon the pun...
