Poll, Submachineguns

If you could own a submachinegun legally, what kind, caliber; ie- Thompson, 1928a.
My submachineguns that I would like to own if I could afford them(I live in SC, autoweapons legal here) would be:
Thompson 1928 either manuf by Colt or Savage, and
Ruger ACC55, .223. The Ruger is one of the least expensive, going for around $6k to $10k or so.
Thompsons are just too expensive, going for around $15k and up.
Browning M2, "MaDeuce", AWESOME WEAPON, 'nuf said. Not a subgun but would still like to own one.

BTW, you CAN legally own any fully auto gun you can afford and meet the requirements.

i saw a pretty good thompson replica built around a 10-22 i dont know if it was a one-off or a kit but at $1000 i couldnt afford the call to find out .(afraid hed be a good salesman)

I once saw a commercial Thompson that was for sale. It belonged to the Carlsbad, NM police Dept. It had several drum mags and a leather round top magazine carrying case. The experts on the scene said that the carrying case was the rarest part of the deal.

The AC556 is a fun gun. Had both a factory full length and factory folder stock. Both guns came from the Knox County, TN SD. The folder was more prone to FTFEED than the fixed stock as it was harder to control in FA with the stock folded. AKA, don't believe everything you saw on "The A-Team".

A buddy has a Thompson/Savage 1928 that is a "Blast" to shoot. Only problem with his '28 is it seems to be ammo sensitive. His loves Winchester 230 gr 45ACP Hardball. It just doesn't like HP's. 2, 3, 7, 15 or more rounds without a hitch. You never know what your going to get until it jams when firing HP's.

One subgun? Just one? That's a tough one.

Thompsons are always close to the top, along with Grease Guns. I appreciate the MP40s as well.

Surprisingly, one of the most fun subguns I ever shot extensively was the much maligned MAC-10 with the old Sionics suppressor. Yeah, not my choice for tactical operations, but for pure bullet hose fun it's hard to beat.

I'll also be perfectly honest - MP5s do absolutely nothing for me. They're the Glock of the subgun world - reliable, accurate, the best at what they're designed to do, and totally without character.

If you open it up to all full autos, I'm partial to 1919a4s, maybe an M60.

The Lorain, OH PD had about 7 or 8 Thompsons and several M2 Carbines. I drooled every time I went into their armory. I don't know if they still have them.

I would like a 1921 or 1927 Thompson and/or an M14.

And speaking of subguns

I'll never forget once when I was working as a photographer and had an assignment to shoot photos of a local police department letting their board of supervisors shoot their weapons. One old geezer supervisor let loose a string from a sub gun that I know went over the berm at the police range!

After they were through with letting the officials shoot all their gear, the cops let us reporters and photographers shoot stuff. An MP5 was what I got, first full-auto I'd shot since an M-16 in the service.

But if I could have ANYTHING full auto it would have to be a Thompson. Although they weigh a ton they are the coolest.
