had visitors to my pool when I cleaned out the skimmer this morning. Seven snapping turtles about the size of a quarter. So I gathered them up and took them to a near pond. (pics of all seven was not possible)

Reminds me of the time when my kids were young. I'd exposed them to all kinds of snakes and turtles to familiarize them with some of the good Lord's creatures. It was a Sunday afternoon and my son Matt commented that there was a turtle at the front door. I put down the newspaper and went to the door, expecting a box turtle, which are very common in central Oklahoma. Imagine my surprise when I opened the door and there was a rather larger common snapping turtle. I got a pair of heavy leather gloves, picked up the 25-30 lb snapper by the back and front edge of the shell and picked it up, with the idea of walking down to the creek behind the house and releasing old Snapper. About halfway to the creek that ole snapper released its bladder, as they do sometimes as another defense mechanism. All I gotta say about that is I had no idea how much fluid a turtle could release in such a hurry. I did get him back to the creek; I was sure glad to let him go!
Back when the world was new, (to me), I found out about helping snakes. Took two days to get the smell off, from one I helped.

If I recall, turtle hatch-lings never see Mamma again, after leaving the nest.

the little guys didn't seem to be as mean as the big ones i've encountered but they were shure glad to scurry back into the pond.
that wasn't near the surprise as I got this spring when I took the lid off the skimmer and there was a small ring neck snake wanting out real bad.
I guess it's good those kind of things don't shake me up too much.

Up near Camp Perry, Ohio is a wildlife area called Magee Marsh. I was driving through the area this spring when I saw a large snapper in the middle of the road. Several vehicles were stopped for it waiting for it to cross to get to the creek. I put on some gloves, grabbed its tail, lifted it up, and took it over to the side of the road and released it. I was wearing shorts and holding it away from my legs, but it was still trying to get a hold of me. Its back was covered in moss/algae, so he was quite old and a heavy sucker too.
They never see her at all, except by random accident...
