They have a little local auction on Tuesday
nights in my area.
Folks bring items in and off they go.
Wife reminded me last night about the auction so
I take off. I am about 30 minutes late.

As I park and walk towards the front door a
couple are coming out of the building.
Under his arm is the distinctive Colt box.
They say hello and I asked if he bought himself
a Colt. He replied that no he was trying to sell and
it did not hit his reserve.

He said he was selling because he wanted a Bushmaster
AR15 and his wife advised he had to sell one to buy
as to not ding the family budget.
I HAD to ask.....he advised the Bushmaster was $850.00
OK..will $850 buy the Colt. They both responded "YES !"

NIB in the box. About 1980 vintage I reckon.

Well, I'm really glad you got it!! I know that some folks would be tempted to flip it with the crazy prices on Pythons and to a lesser extent, Diamondbacks, right now, but if I were in your shoes, I would not only keep it, but lovingly shoot it as well!! What a find! I know that it won't be "NIB" any more if you shoot it, but you could still always turn a profit if you had to part with it. I have a 2 1/2" Diamondback that is in nowhere near the condition of yours, and have been offered twice what you paid for yours. And I have no box, and that was an opening offer....

I vote for shooting, with a range report to follow!!

Best Regards, Les

That's a cool looking gun the Diamondback.
You did great and if only it had been a .22 you
woulda' completely stole that one.

Very nice acquisition !!!

Congrats! You got a great buy on that one. I don't consider anything like that stealing, as long as the buyer and seller are both happy with the price. In reality, that gun should only be worth about $900. It is the internet hype and people's mindless nature that has caused the crazy prices on Colts.

I would have bought it to flip as I have no need for a 6" 38spl. If you wanted, I imagine you could get about $1500-$1700 for it depending on if it really is LNIB and you have all the packaging that is serialized. The market is starting to finally get some sense in it now, and all but the very exotic Colts are starting to come back down. Pythons are still up there for the most part. As long as you can convince someone it is 'NIB', somebody will shell out a semesters worth of tuition for it because some are just that brainwashed.

Great deal! Wish I could come across one for that price to go with the python my dad handed down to me. I've always liked the diamondbacks
