Just when I say there isn't a 3913 I wouldn't buy, somebody posts a picture of one.

The 3913 looks like it was done by Magnaport, not sure about the 4506. I am willing to bet there are more than just those two ported 3rd Gens out there. I believe S&W PC even produced some ported guns, but via extended ported barrels and not slide/barrel combos. While I don't see the need for a ported 9mm or .45 3rd Gen, I would likely prefer a ported version of the say the CS40 or 4040PD. Personal preference only.

I have no issues with ported or compensated guns. The reported negative aspects are mostly false. I have been carrying a G23C for a number of years, having put it through it's paces in a number of day, night, operational, tactical and target shooting venues and have never experienced any of the issue I read about all the time on gun forums.

I just think the porting of the slide and barrel, takes away from the aesthetic look of the gun.

Another Ported 3913

Hey if you guys won’t make too much fun of me I will confess to owning a ported 3913. It is like new (other than having three massive ports on it) and just guessing since I am not the original owner it could not have had more than a couple of boxes of ammo fired through it. It shoots as good as any of my other compact third generation guns. I can’t say I noticed any recoil improvement, but the mussel flip does appear to be improved by the porting.

I did not do or have done the porting at least. It is bad enough I bought the thing, a long story I prefer not to discuss. LOL I have to admit I get a little sad every time I take it out and look at it. I also have to agree with the earlier poster that on some level it is just wrong to have done this to a 3913, even if it was very well done. In my defense I bought this some time ago before I had learned much about third generation guns or semi-autos in general.

1. The PC was/is licensed by MagnaPort to use thier design, so a lot of 3rd Gen pistols have been done at the factory (I don't know of any produced that way, but many have been returned for the procedure).

2. Porting does work. The higher the cartridge pressure, the more muzzle flip is reduced.

3. Most importantly. The porting can be helpful for hunting or gun games, but it is horrid during the retention phase of qualification. All that crap blows straight up into your face.

Porting the 3913 just doesn't look right to me and unless you were shooting some +P+ ammo I couldn't see the value in reduced muzzle flip.Just MHO God Bless.....Mike

My G23C has about 1200 rounds through it at various night shoots. No blindness, no brilliant flash and no gremlins crawled out of it and threatened my mother. Although I will admit that after 50 rounds or so the front sight is dirty enough to reduce the visibility of the tritium vile.
