I picked this one up today. An I frame chambered in 22 LR. Looks to be a 22/32. The grips are not original. The serial number is 517657, appearing on the forestrap and cylinder. The chambers are not recessed. The catalogue suggests it to be pre 1935. Any thoughts on that and what the value might be? Timing and lock up are good. The pull on S/A is very light. Thanks for the input.

Do you see the same number on the underside of the barrel, above the ejector rod? It is configured as a prewar .22/32 Kit Gun, but I think the SN is too early for the known range for these (starting at about 525,000). It may be what a member calls a "virtual" Kit Gun that the factory may have produced from a 6" gun.

Also, is the barrel 4", and is there a step in the back strap of the grip frame?

It may be a factory Kit Gun...the local Kit Gun expert DC Wilson will be along shortly (unless he is watching the Super Bowl :)).

It is probably a re-barreled HFT. The cylinder chambers on a Kit Gun should be recessed.

I believe the barrel has been replaced. It has smith and Wesson markings on it, but no serial number. I believe that would indicate a non factory conversion? Can anyone comment on the front sight? I have not seen one like it. Is it some kind of custom job?
