Post Office gun ban ruled unconstitutional

Our post office occupies about 1/2 of a city block and on one street there is a small drive through with 3 metal mail boxes you can drop letters in. Technically you would be committing a felony going through and dropping off a letter with a gun in your rig even if it was in a lock box in the trunk

Unless you carry a gun into a post office (or the parking lot) with the intent to commit a crime of violence it is just a misdemeanor to have a gun in the PO.

(a)Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

My lovely daughter forgot about a loaded NA Arms .22 Magnum in her purse when she went to see about an SBA loan at a federal building. She was given a citation and let go, though they kept the gun. Ol’ Dad paid a fine of 200 something bucks, which they called a forfeiture of a civil something. No mugshot, no prints, no criminal history. I even got the gun back.

I don’t care about carry in USPO. I do care about being able to ship by Mail.
I have to pay $45 to ship from FFL. My FFL ships in medium Flat Rate Box.
That’s less than $20 to ship exactly same thing to same place, a FFL. Its ridiculous.

Ever since a patron was armed at gunpoint at the front door of our PO a couple of years back, both local Postal management and local law enforcement have sensibly turned a stone-blind eye to the "problem" of armed citizens on-site...

USPS needs to be Privatized, end all the down right Stupid rules and policies. Make them function as a business. By the way they are Not federal property any more so the “ protections” need to go.
