Post Question

Having passed the half century mark a few years ago, I find that I have an eye for detail for some things and not others.

For instance. Does anyone else look over their post preview several times, then hit submit post only to find a mistake?

I do this more than I would like to admit.

I use Google spell checker cause I can't spell worth beans. And even then some of my posts don't make sense!

I type it. I read it. I fix it. I post it. I read it again. More times than I like, I then hit EDIT and fix it, again.

Naw, I usually just pull the trigger and let fly.
That's why so many of my post are edited later, once I spot my mistake(s).

I try to preview closely as well.
I am more likely to type out some fantastic comment every one will be amazed by,...then,..after taking so long to get it "two-fingered" on the screen, I either forget the original intent of my message, or decide, maybe I'd best not subject anyone to this "babble".

Then, I head to my most used keyboard tool, BACKSPACE

No....It never happens to me! Only all the freaking time. Of course I have spell check, & I proof read at least once. A day or so later, I might be going through a thread & see one of my posts with a glaring typo, laughing at me. It makes me a little crazy.

Not only do I have trouble with spelling, grammar, and sentence structure, I suffer from deep bouts of brain-death. None of it's my fault, of course. I can safely say that the root of my ineptitude is the result of peer pressure; and that, gentlemen, is ya'll.

I'm honored to be in such esteemed company.

My boss showed me a CCTV shot of a hallway in a building on our campus, and I could tell him exactly where it was and in what building. Ask me what I had for dinner last night, and I freeze.

I'm sure I will find a good use for my newly (so-so) acquired superpower of forgetfullness.

Yes, I do this.

I can give an even better example from years ago in a previous career. I wrote up a bunch of engineering stuff and submitted it to my boss. He liked it and asked for a couple of small edits. Then we gave it to the section leader who was thrilled something was finally on paper, and suggested a couple of edits. This went on though the head of division, then some folk at the corporate HQ until finally I had a document that could be published as all the great and the good had reviewed and edited as necessary.

Fast forward to the day I unpacked the box of reports (this was before desktop publishing) when my dad happened to come by my office. I proudly gave him a copy to read, and inside five minutes he uttered the immortal words, "Why are there two, Figure 2s?" Yep, all of us involved in the work missed something that obvious.

I sometimes notice a post from several days before has errors in it. One problem I have is I will type think but for some reason, my brain tells my fingers to type thing. Thank goodness for EDIT

Do it all the time, that's why you'll see "edit" so frequently in my posts.

I do like to see the posts where people depend almost completely on spell check and you get break instead of brake (or vice versa), peaked instead of piqued, etc. The machines haven't overtaken us completely. Yet

One of my really good tricks is to type up a detailed response or thread opener & then hit preview. I look it over, looks good to go, I said what I wanted to say, no typos...cool! Then I get out of the thread, only then realizing that I hit preview & not submit reply, & I'll have to do it all over again if I want to post it! A lot of times I just give up.

In my former life I had a similar thing on a monthly basis. I would have to write up Court Reports before we went to a hearing. All reports had to be reviewed by my big boss (that went fine) then it went to the Lawyers who basically re wrote the entire thing, one was a former English teacher. It still said what I wrote just rearranged. I got along very well with her and finally asked her "Why don't you just write the thing?" Ha Ha.

So we go to court I have all my field notes and the report had been sent to the Judge a few days in advance, First thing he would ask is "So, Why are we here today"????? Our Lawyer would explain, chat chat,etc, etc see ya in 30 days!

Why did I write the damn report??

Sometimes I hit the wrong key, that's what happens when I let my finger's do the talking, at least once maybe more, I don't know, when I read one thread and moved on to another, while still thinking of the first and decided to put the answer to the worng one, that's what old age does to you, I could have gone back and deleted it, but what the heck.
