I've seen every other barrel lenght up forsale in this model. Can't say I've ever seen a 5".

I see in the Catalog they were produced.

Any out there? What would one expect to pay for a new in box?

Thanks

I believe they are out there. I thought I had one about a year ago but turns out it was a six inch gun.
I would guess that a Pre 27 w/ 5" barrel NIB, meaning it has the box, original grips, etc. would go for $1200 and up, up, up.

They DO exist, I bought a 95% or so example from one of our members a few years ago for $675.00.

Which is, by the way and of course, not for sale.
Enjoy.

i have a 27 no dash in 5".

what is the scarcity of a 27 no dash 4 screw vs a pre 27. assume there would be a lot less pre 27's out there.

are all 27 no dashes 4 screw?

Me too!

The .357 Magnum (pre-Model 27) was made from about 1950 until 1957 when it became the Model 27. The upper side plate screw was deleted in 1956, but it wouldn't surprise me if a model marked 5 screw or two was out there. The 27-1 was introduced in 1960 (extractor thread reversed) and the 27-2 was introduced in 1961 (eliminate trigger guard screw). I believe both the 27 and 27-1 are rarer than Pre-Model guns.

S199523 shipped 5.19.60 to Tacoma, WA.

Bought it 5 years ago from a MT pawn shop after a Forum member who knew I liked old 27s told he'd seen it in the shop priced at $299.

I don't have a pre-model 5" Magnum but wish that I did. Of course, I wish I had them all.

Are all pre-27's 5 screw guns? What's the going price these days for a 5" pre-27? Is it still in the $1000+ range?

No. there are also 4 screw PRE-27's, as there are in most models.
If you find a decent Pre 27 in 5" for 1000, JUMP on it.

5" pre-27 correct numbered magna grips and no box $1200 in the local gun shop. I bought the 6.5" instead for $950.

I would guess, with the hopes others more knowledgeable will jump in, a Pre Model 27 blued five incher in mint condition, meaning all original, with a good looking original-numbered box, would fetch better than $1400.

A 5" pre-27 is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Missed the one offered by our own handejector on Gunbroker because of a commo blackout (I'm in Iraq and internet is REAL bad here and they black it out when there is an, "incident").

Anyway, I had to pass on one for $550 a few years ago since I was broke. It wasn't show-quality and had no box, but it was NICE.

I am still actively looking for one. I wouldn't mind a Model-numbered 4-screw, but Model-numbered S&Ws are not C&R and I HATE transfers.

Yeah, I have a 3.5" too. Now I'm being tempted by a 5"!

I've given up looking at 6" barrel wheelguns, but there's something about that 5" that's really nicely balanced looking -- even more than a 4".
