I posted a time or two about this gun but in other folk's threads. Got the letter today so it deserves another thread.
It is one of the relatively few post war transitional Outdoorsmans that shipped with a pre war 357 Magnum barrel. Would be interesting to know how many post war ODs shipped with those; other commenters know of eight or so if I remember correctly. One of those S&W mysteries I guess as to why they would use any of their relatively small pre-war 357 Magnum barrel supply when they were planning to build actual 357 Magnums. These barrels can be recognized by the checkering on the rib which was characteristic of the pre war 357 Magnums.
A nice little bonus was that the gun was originally shipped to Wolf & Klar in Fort Worth. Seventy plus years later it turned up in Dallas so it hadn't wandered far. It came with the wrong stocks, although those were "cokes" so no complaints there but I do need a set of the pre war length post war magnas if anyone has a set to spare.
