Post Your Very First 5-Screw S&W

My first 5 screw was also my very first revolver. I was interested in snub-nosed Chiefs Specials and came upon this one for sale. It is a Baby Chief, circa 1953, and of some interest to me, but maybe not to anyone else, is it was owned by the long time editor of Guns & Ammo. Enjoyed discussing it with the guy who was selling it and ending up buying it and really enjoy it. Superb condition and shoots really nice.

My first was also my first duty gun and first centerfire revolver. A 1920s era M&P that I traded away when I went to work for a department that capped barrel length at 4". As I recall I paid $65 for it. I sometimes took pictures of my cars back then, but not my guns.

Here's the most recent.

Even later to this shindig...but I bought my first 5-Screw just last year, the good news is I've acquired several more since.

No really cool story to go with this sweet little Baby Chief, but I think it stands just fine by itself. (Now that I think about it, this one, 12340, was for a time the highest serial smooth ramp known...another has claimed that spot now).

Hey All!
I bought my first two 5-screw Smiths simultaneously around 3 months ago.

Pre-24 6.5" .44Special w/ incorrect Stocks ~97%
Pre-26 6.5" Light Target Barrel .45acp w/ original Stocks ~99%

Still hunting for a decent deal on the correct vintage stocks for the pre-24, so excuse the terrible photos. I'll take more when she is wearing the rights ones.

My First 5-Screw S&W

An old post, but what the heck. This was my first S&W 5-screw, a 1955 .357 Magnum with 6-1/2" bbl. Since that one, it's been: 1917, M&Ps (pre-Model 10 and 1905 4th), K-22, and a .44 HE 3rd Model (W&K). Still have a few more on my wish list.

I don't have the first one anymore, or the next dozen or so I owned afterwards.

The only five screw I've got now is this 1954 K-22 "Combat Masterpiece."

It's been around the block a time or two, even with me. I first got it several years ago, then traded it off to a buddy. A few months ago, I noticed he had it up for sale/trade on a local "gun for sale" board, so I traded with him to get it back. I suppose it will stay with me this time. They're kinda hard to find in any shape.

It's as tight as a tick mechanically, the stocks number to the gun, and it's got just enough "character" I think.
