Does anyone know if the Philadelphia police ever marked their revolvers or issued S&W model 64's? Thanks.

In 1977 I was issued a Model 64 that was stamped P.P.D., followed by a three digit number, on the back strap. This was in RI and our department had just recently switched to M-64s so it may, as suggested above, have been an overrun from Providence PD. As I remember it, the stamping was neatly done, but obviously by hand, plain block letters, etc.

I don't think Philly PD marked service revolvers. From what I recall Philly cops had to buy their own service revolver. A shop in Philly I used to frequent always had a few old service revolvers for sale that they had bought from retiring Philly cops. It also occurs to me that Philly cops always seemed to carry blued revolvers.

PPD without some confirmatory documentation would be hard to pin down, with so many cities and towns starting with P.

Pittsburgh/ Provdience/Phoenix/ Plymouth… the list would be very long.

Always interested in what eventually surfaces as the truth !

A picture is helpful.

PPD can be somebody's initials like Phillis P Diller or Peter Paul Diaz. When I was a cop I knew a few cops who had their revolvers personalized.
