Been shooting my Mod 19-5 6" last couple weekends. I've run a lot of different ammo's thru it trying to settle on a good Deer hunting load and a practice ammo that'll hit POI with it. I also carry it one day a week on my lonesome, on the job into Black Bear country loaded with Buffalo Bore 180gr Flatnose. I tried em just enough to establish that they group decent and they do.

I declare the Federal 180gr JHP hunting ammo in it makes me look like a pistol shooting champ, and I'm sticking with it if I deer hunt with it. It also groups the American Eagle 130gr FMJ 38 Specials just as good with POI the same. Tried a couple other 38's with not so good success.

But just wondering what gives you'll the best accuracy for the Buck in practice ammo? Only accurate ammo keeps me interested in plenty shooting, and I like to shoot!

There is enough individual manufacturing variation that one revolver will work great for a given shooter with a certain load, and an outwardly identical one of the same vintage will not. Fortunately you have found two loads that work, and one is relatively inexpensive practice ammo.

The model 19s were originally intended for 158 gr loads, so if you are really curious I would probably try other loads of that bullet weight. Enjoy!
