Pravda's Editorial on American Firearms

It makes your wonder why our government is so hellbent on becoming like other countries, when other countries see us as a model they wish to emulate. The voices of reasson are out there and everywhere. These are the kind of SANE arguments we should be putting forth. History, not just our own, but the world over.

This is a quote from the NYT comment section, regarding gun control. ".....put their trust in the rule of law and procedural democracy, a movement to repeal the 2nd Amendment makes perfect sense.....". Question. How many people are willing to give up their guns and place the safety of themselves and family in "the rule of law and procedural democracy"? A better question might be "what plant are these people living on".

A still better question might be: How exactly does the law prevent crimes and atrocities from happening?

I get the impression that these people, at times, believe that the "good guys" have "pre-cogs" on watch 24/7 a-la Minority Report.

Pravda is both a Russian Communist newspaper and internet news website. Do you want to be shocked? Pravda is Pro-Second Amendment!

Americans never give up your guns - English pravda.ru

I posted that a while back in a thread that I started. Just to be accurate, Pravda used to be the official newspaper of the USSR. Judging by the rhetoric of their current editorials, they are not Communist at all.

In fact, most newspapers in America have a much more communist tone than does Pravda.

That's the point. Laws are guidelines for honest people, setting the boundaries for an orderly society. They are meaningless to criminals and simply adding more laws (or taking guns away from honest people) will not make any difference.

Some reading of Solzhenitsin confirms this. At one point in his massive "Gulag Archipelago" he relates the regrets of political prisoners in that they did not fight back against the Soviet authorities when they at least had a slim chance. Had more done that, he speculates, the secret police might have realized that they were vastly outnumbered by their selected victims.

His advice to resisters was "Don't believe them, don't fear them, don't ask anything of them."

You have to admit--the man knew whereof he spoke.
