Decided to skip the layaway and just bring it home today. S/N 118xxx indicates mfg. in 1951. The goodyears have to go. I've got a line on a set of proper Magna grips.

The pictures make it look a little worse than it does in real life.

Someone is sure to fuss about you not calling it a Combat Masterpiece... Yes, the rubber has to go. It should wear magnas with the diamond relief if I remember from what I have read. I'm going with all Ahrneds at this point since I have yet to find a S&W wood stock that I actually enjoy the fit to my hand while shooting the gun. Adding a grip adapter with magnas is ok, but still just not for me. I would try whatever flavor of wood you prefer in a Ahrends Retro Combat square butt grip. But that's me being me again. I can't wait to see the final choice you make. But in the mean time the setting behind that fish hook is pretty grand.

There are just some real hard corps grips/stocks, pre 15/combat masterpiece, and no dash guys here. I think it's interesting to get that wound up over protocol but I still enjoy all the pictures of really great looking guns. No they don't all look the same!!!

I have a set of newer (no diamond) factory S&W oversize combat grips with the speed loader cutout I'd be willing to sell for $60 + shipping. Not quite right for the period for your gun, but in excellent (95%+) shape. If you're interested PM me for cell phone pics.

Congrats! They are great revolvers. I happened to run into the set of magnas that I put on the one posted in your other thread. I really like them with a grip adapter.

Goodmorning. That is a very fine looking pre 15 you have. Last weekend I posted a pic of a nickle pre 15 that there was some question about it being refinished, I promised to post more pics but frankly I got busy and forgot about it. Can you do me a favor and take a close up shot or two of the very end of the site ramp on yours, kind of end on but not fully, that way I can compare the profile of yours vs. mine?
The only indication I question on my nickle is the profile of that site ramp, I'll be sure to post up pic's of my nickle one this evening to compare.
Thanks if you can help me out. Also I'll dig thru my stock collection and if I have a set of proper diamond magnas I'll make you a good deal on them.

Here are two period and lettered examples that bracket the year of your gun. Good luck on the search, that will be a great shooter!
