Came across a 1948, 1st year production, of a pre-18, with original grips, probably about 80 percent bluing still OK, and cylinder slightly out of time, pronounced turn line. Asking price was $399. Wondering if this is a righteous price.

I would hate to hold my breath as long as it will be for you to see another one, 18 or pre-18, for under 4 bills. The timing issue would be my only concern as it has become hard as heck around here to get someone to work on a revolver, competently.

I just picked up a 4" 18-3 ANIB this weekend at the show for $425 OTD and thought I got a good deal.

If it is mechanically sound and you want one, I'd grab it. I wish I hadn't sold my 2 pre-18s.

Well pals,

I did get the pre-18. Dealer came down $25 so that paid the sales taxes.

After cleaning it up and peening the hand, it was right smart, timing OK. I'll consider a new hand at a future date.

The serial # on barrel, cylinder and butt are all K16XXX, placing it in 1947 but the SCSW "K-listing" says it was not introduced until a year later---whatever.

And up in the regular catalog section of the SCSW it states that it was "circa 1949"--yeah, I know what circa means.

So, I'll just figure it's a 1947 or perhaps 1948 production.

I just paid $425 (shipping included) for a 95% pre-18 that I bought off of "Guns International". Serial # places it's DOB as 1952. IMO that is a fair price for a 5 screw
K-22. They sure aren't going to go lower!!
