I haven't been on here for 12 years, so if i'm shunned it's deserved. I just today posted my pre 23 (?) on a local trader, but i'm worried that i didn't price it right. Would some of you look at my pics and help me with an estimate?

Pictures are too blurry to be of much use in valuation. One with original finish, SN matching magnas, and no obivious issues is probably somewhere between $800 and $2k depending just how nice is the finish at least where I shop. Bright blue is a premium as would be box/papers. Most any N frame in reasonably good condition is about $1k these days so if you priced it much below that you might be low. Good luck. And welcome back, stick around this time.

Grips have stamped number not matching to gun.

Thanks, are these any better?

Looks pretty good, stocks are wrong. . . .but the kind of wrong that is just fine with me; pre-war service stocks. Those are probably worth twice what the correct diamond magnas would cost. Shows some blue loss, I'd probably be in at around $1k which means there are others who would likely happily pay more.

A friend advised me $1,400 which may prove to be too high. The only real blue loss is very little at the muzzle, the glare is an issue.

THANKS for your help.

She's cute!

That looks like it has similar light wear at the muzzle, or maybe it's the light.

I'll do that, I posted it today and i know it's kinda rich for some.

... I know it's kinda rich for some.

Those who fit in that category are the ones who'll swear they could buy it for half that amount. Don't cave in to the low-ballers who offer $1000 or less. They'll just turn around and sell it for more than you're asking for it. I don't think $1400 is out of line at all - if the condition is what it appears to be. But to be honest, the pics really aren't good enough for an accurate assessment of the actual condition.

Another vote for $1,400 or higher.
You can always come down!
Here's mine.

So, how do they shoot? I don't think that we have consummated the marriage.

Mine shoots very well! The heft of it holds recoil to very easy limits. It should shoot everything in .38 special to be found. Accurate with the loads it likes (like all revolvers) to ok with other loads. Fine revolver. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a buyer....

My understanding....The "pre" designation means that the model 23 when issued was based on this gun. They didn't start using model #'s until the late 50's??

My Outdoorsman's are S791XX, S816XX and S995XX, But I have A 44 Spl' #S1273XX
