Suggestion

Nice photos with your new light box. Might I make a suggestion? Try using a reflector or small light to fill in dark areas (see attached) on the firearm. More detail could be seen. We look forward to more of your photos.

Jim,
I have the exact same box. Does yours have 4 color backgrounds too?I don't like how the side lights work. So I spent a bunch of money and bought the Sun. I take my light box outside most of the time. The light diffusion is perfect. Even then I still have to play with angles to keep glare away. It takes some practice. But most any shot taken in a box beats a kitchen table shot!! I also take outdoor shots early in the morning or as the sun is setting. You getting better light that way. More expensive lighting will make them even better...but so far I haven't found a cheaper source than the sun.

I Agree 110%...The Lights are not really good from the Side...I am still experimenting with the lighting...I still have 2 feet of snow, but plan to experiment outside soon....

Thanks for the Tips...Much Appreciated...

Your lights need not be expensive. In the attached, you can see a simple, low cost clamp light on a PVC stand. The light can be had from Walmart and the pipe from Home Depot. Difusing the light is easilly done with tracing paper, parchment paper, etc. Tip: buy or make your lights in pairs. If you mix lights, balancing intensity and white balance can be a challenge.

Jim, a suggestion from a photography idiot (me). I saw this in an article, put your photo box on apiece of glass and elevate it so you can add lights from the bottom in addition to the side lights. Gives a completely different look to the pictures.

Jim, these pictures are better. I do agree that you need more diffused light. Also, there is an LED lamp that is used for macro photography that attaches to the filter mount on lens of most SLR-type cameras. This is an example. Showing off and then fully lighted.
