What is the approximate value of a Pre-27 5 screw revolver in 90% condition?

Depends on barrel length and location in the country. Any way between $500 and $1000. I have seen a few listed for up to $1200, but that was "asking price", and I haven't seen them sell. I have a 3 1/2" and it is 95%+ and I wouldn't take $1000 for it.

Sir.
I think that before anyone answers that , they will want to know the barrel length, type of sights, type of grips, serial number, blue or nickel.
Probably more.
At 90 %, it will be graded as a shooter grade gun. It has gone past the collectable stage.

More info is needed and who decided it was 90%? Location and barrel length are important and a few pictures would help a lot. I picked up a 90-95% condition 3.5 inch pre-27, with matching grips locally for $650 dollars and considered it a great deal.

A 90% 5 screw pre 27 is $1345 in the Blue Book.

Good luck getting $1345 for a 90% Pre 27. I don't care if it is a 3.5" or not.

The Blue Book is a guide not a definitive on prices. If it were I would have sold my Pre 23's for $2500 each a couple years ago....

PRE - MODEL 27's

I have 2ea. 3 1/2" guns, one nickel, one blue. Blue has box, nickel does not. Both wear Ivories and I have received offers, but not the asking price. Experience has shown if it looks too good to be true, it just might be. Be VERY careful in your selection of such treasures. Don't forget to post some photos if you get the piece. A 5" inch piece has topped my list for some time, but a complete one has never come my way. :( :) Good luck!! :)

A pre-27 5 screw isn't nearly as valuable as a pre-27 4 screw.

Like any gun it's worth what the seller can get and the buyer is willing to pay.

I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to Smiths and I just recently came into a couple. My question is I have a small round butt S&W thats marked .32 Long CTG on the barrel, serial# 11808 on the frame by the yoke and the #366435 on the bottom of the grip frame. Now it has 4 screws on the side plate and one on the front of the trigger guard. Does that make it a 5 screw? Any idea on the date of manufacture? I'm not really sure what I have. Didn't mean to high jack the thread.

Them again.

They ought to change the name of that publication to the Red Book so it would match the color their faces ought to be from the embarrassment of being wrong so consistently on so many models.
The blue book can also be used for your advantage When you find a dealer that strictly goes by it and does not know the real value of a collectable. Some guns are under valued in the book.I found this too be true on some colt autos.I picked up a colt pre 70 45 auto in 99% at a local gun shop for 650.00 about 3 years ago.He had it listed at 700.00.At that Time you could'nt touch one for under 1,200.00 on line.Lowhog

Amen to that!!! I stopped buying and using the BB 3 or 4 years ago when they blatently screwed up on the M&P pricing. They clearly took the prices for the valuable 2nd model and purpetuated them - exactly - for all of the following variations, even the post war guns. I sent them a letter after getting my book that year but there was no response and they continued the error the following year too. Had people thinking that a post war M&P was worth $1200 or more....... The book has really become worthless IMO
