My local gun pusher has been trying to sell me a Pre 27 in the attractive 3 1/2" barrel lenght. The gun has seen a good bit of use but looks good and locks up and times nicely. The magnas are very good. Unfortunately, the barrel has clearly been cut down (to my eye anyway) to 3 1/2. I am tempted to make an offer for the gun minus the barrel. I have a spare 27 barrel (6") laying around here somewhere. Any ideas as to a reasonable offer?

Is the gun shootable right now? If the barrel was chopped and the sight put on and it's a complete non-original 3.5" gun I would say $400 as a shooter. If the gun is simply butchered and unfinished then I would offer $250.

Saxon, The gun is shootable. The front sight is drilled and pinned in place. The rollmarks begin (and end) right at the front edge of the barrel and the barrel crown has that 'something doesn't look right' look.

+1...........

If the gun is nice otherwise, I would buy it and rehab it. As long as you don't get too much money in the project, and especially since you already have a barrel, how could you possibly go wrong? Saxonpig's numbers sound about right to me, but I imagine you will have to pay a bit more than that. Still, you'll end up with a nice old revolver you won't worry about shooting. :)

Here is a long-action transitional Outdoorsman that was modified many years ago about like what you are talking about on the pre-27. It is an outstanding shooter. If the price is LOW and it shoots well I would sure consider buying yours.
