Pre 27 with "Unique" Keith Brown Custom Ropers

Richard, Thanks very much for the thread and the great pictures. And another Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. This set presented a couple of new challenges but they were definitely a fun set to make. I actually started with another piece of wood but early on I decided it was a bit to plain in figure for this design, this piece worked out much better. The grips look right at home on a long barrel Smith, they would kind of overpower a short barrel IMO. Keith

Keith:

Thanks for taking the project, with all of its challenges. Also, thanks for posting the photos along the way. Amazing process and craftsmanship!

I can say that I've never seen a more beautiful set of grips in my life. Keith is THE master - and Richard - thanks for ordering them!

Best,

Jerry

i thought those looked familiar

Keith told me he had posted a set of pics of 'grips in the making' based on a set of customer photos... then I noticed the leather on that sofa looked amazingly familiar like the one I am sitting on right now!

At any rate, I am sending Keith the real stocks off my Outdoorsman so he does not have to guess on measurements. and he is - I think - making me a RH set for a Model 57-0 and a LH set for a Colt OM Target in .22 LR - unless of course I can convince him to make a set for my Colt Shooting Master instead. Since folks seem to like my stocks and they love his work - I think they would be really jam up on a Shooting Master.

at any rate, yes, the original thumbrest Ropers with the flared toe also fit exceptionally nice...

Keith, your are a true craftsman :) What beautiful work.

Keep up the great work & all the best.

JD

While those grips arent my taste, they did come out well and its really an impressive piece of workmanship you put on them Keith.

I really gotta make a point to place an order for some repro coke bottle grips for my M29 done up like the dirty harry gun here with you one of these days:

OK...
Since cavedog let the 'Colt' cat out of the bag, here is the finest set Keith has ever made for me.
They're modeled after a set of Ropers I have on a K 22 Outdoorsman's Revolver.
Even though Lee doesn't like thumbrests, he's paid a nice compliment to Keith on these.

absolutely mean as hell!

I have an order with Kb to make a set of grips - copy of mine - also for a Colt OMT in .22LR, only Left handed, as well.

I was going to have them made up in French walnut, but seeing yours in black walnut - that is tough to beat!

Even though I do a lot of things right handed, and I am right eye dominant, some things i do only left handed and I am ambidextrous with a handgun. And I ruptured my longhead bicep tendon (the big one in the middle) in my right arm and it will be late November before I will be able to shoot a pistol right handed.

I also bought a Colt OMT, in .32 Long Colt, with an original set of Ropers in fancy black walnut, King Super Target Conversion with the vent rib and a Double Cockeye Hammer. It looks mean as hell already, but a set of these thumbrest stocks on it would be damn Quentin Tarentino Medevial! Get that gimp out of the box and the brothers with a blow torch!

Cavedog: I just have to thank you for posting your beautiful ropers and enough photos of them so that Keith could work his magic. I'm not sure if the dimensions are exactly the same, but I can tell you that they feel GREAT in my hands, and they are pretty "easy on the eyes"

Don:

Those stocks on that Colt are spectacular. I cannot sing Keith's praises loud enough...

Thanks for sharing,
