I have an eye on a 6" pre-K22 (.22lr) in about 85-90% condition, still nice and tight but with a fair amount of holster wear on the bluing and no box. Does anyone know what year this one was made (SN: K143939)? I've always wanted one of these and I know there's tons of them out there, although people tend to hold onto them. I've seen a number of older blued K22's at gun shows but they're always priced well above what I thought was reasonable (for a shooter). This one is priced at $580, which is kind of high (I think). I can get a new stainless 617 in the $700 range but I kind of like the older S&W revolvers. I've purchased several guns from this shop before and I'm thinking I could possibly get them down to around $450-500 range. If anyone could let me know what year this one's from and what type of price range is reasonable I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Your price range sounds good to me, now hope it is good for the shop too :) .

BTW, all guns of this type are "K-22s", but after 1957 it became the model 17.

Buy it and when you negotiate, recognize most shops take trade ins or buy used guns outright at about 50% of Blue Book value. So check out the Blue Book and you'll know based on your observations of the finish left, about what he has in the gun.

Their current price is normal from what I've seen, $500 is a good deal, $450 is a great deal.
