What is a Pre Lock Trail Boss worth with a ported barrel? I cant find one under $1000.

Should I wait and be patient? Will I like the Trail Boss? Is it fairly accurate? Does it take the same type of grips as your standard 629 round butts?

Thank your for your service to our country.

Prices vary. I have a used 629-6 with the 3" barrel and was lucky to find it for only $475. I mostly only shoot .44 Spec. with it and it is fairly accurate. The grips are just regular N-frame round butt.

Bought a Trail Boss about 3 years ago (LNIB) ported by Mag-na-port. Kind of a odd ball because it does not say Trail Boss on the gun but on the barrel it has 150th Anniversary. The box is numbered to the gun and says Trail with the correct product code. Paid 400 from a friend of mine and he wants to buy it back but I am not going to sell at this time. If anyone has info on this Smith I would appreciate it. Shoot 44 spl. in it-love the gun.

I am looking at one with serial #RSR7762. A grand might be to steep though from the prices you guys paid. Would I be over paying?

I think you should shop around and try to be patient ,that feels too high .
I paid $900 for a 3 inch 629 and had buyers remorse for weeks .
I really like this puppy, but it is somewhat tainted because I know I paid too much. It seems we are happier when we get a FAIR deal on something.

Old Irish saying :
You can fleece a sheep year after year
But you can only skin him once

It`s funny when we get something in mind and just gotta have it- It either cant be found or is too dear- then when we are not looking or caring that same item is everywhere and for less.

I've had my Trail Boss since the 90's. It shoots just fine and is as accurate as my 686. It also has Magna Porting.

I think you'll like it. It's roughly the same size as my 4" 686.

I have tried the Hogue round butt and square butt grips and they both worked perfectly. I'm currently using the round butt because it carried a little better for me. YMMV

Can't help you on the price, I traded for mine NIB.

Saw one sell through Cabelas about 2 weeks ago, no box or docs, standard RB service grips at $595.00. Imo that was a smokin deal and it didn't last but about a day on their site. That was billed as a 629-1, 3", magnaported.

Have seen these on GB for around $850 or so. All I am describing are pre locks but they may or may not be Trail Boss product codes.

Hope this helps.
