Pre Model 10...help me please

I agree with Art Doc, stamp the numbers on the frame that match the barrel. Raising the numbers with acid will also work. I just don't see a big problem with it.

I will never understand why committing a felony in order to keep a low value piece of junk makes sense. It is low probability that you get caught but why take any risk of a felony conviction so that, among other things, you can never own ANY gun EVER again. There are plenty of convictions on record of people that ground out or altered serial numbers, some with supposedly innocent intentions.

.... committing a felony in order to keep a low value piece of junk ....

Especially this. If it were a cherished heirloom that saved grandpa's life in the war, that'd be one thing. But per the OP, this is about liquidating an unrelated departed's collection, so at most a few hundred bucks for this. Just no.

That's what I think too - nothing about that abused revolver justifies jumping thru any hoops - or taking any risk regardless of the odds.

To me there is no market value.

Agree a converted BSR. It could be restamped with the correct number and no one would know. Yes, the restamping isn't legal without prior permission. And you might get 100-200 for it.

OR You could remove the grips. Hell, you could probably gut the hammer, trigger and internal parts to resell. And turn it in at a working or not / no questions asked gun buy back. That's what I'd do.

Just my opinion....even if it were legal, its barely worth more than a parts gun. Strip the usable parts and sell them, and get rid of the frame! No headaches for anyone that way.
