I'm pretty sure yours (C16705) was shipped in 1948, the same year I was. I have several that were from my birth year but the birth month still evades me

Yours almost certainly shipped in 1948. The closest number on my list is C16665, and it shipped in November, 1948. C19804 shipped in August, 1948.

Revolver number C1 was assembled in March, 1948. Shipments in 1948 reached to about C40000.
