had a few questions about going yote hunting

I'm in Las Vegas and going to coyote hunt this weekend. Can I take a handgun and rifle across the border unloaded? I won't be getting out of my vehicle until I am back in NV. Unloaded is full clip but none in the chamber I assume?

Can I shoot jackrabbits any time of year?

And my big question is, can you shine a light out of your car at night to spot?

Anything else I should know please let me know

Unloaded means no bullet in fire arm at all.

A gun with a loaded magazine but no round chambered is still considered loaded.

What border are you crossing?

Print out a copy of the Game Laws for the area you are hunting and highlight the rules and regulations pertaining to coyote hunting.

Especially the part about "Jacklighting" at night with a firearm in your vehicle. In some states you can get a heavy fine and your firearm confiscated for shining a light out of a vehicle at night with a gun in your vehicle. Most wildlife officers will assume you are hunting for deer at night and not coyotes.

Taking the 15 out of Vegas, following it to a turnout just beyond the California border, and following the road back in through Nipton back into Vegas.

Make sure you have a "Varmint Hunting Permit" from the state you will be hunting in. Some states have separate permits, some only a general hunting license. Have the gun "cased" and fully unloaded. Have permission of the land owners where you are going to be hunting, preferably in writing in case you are stopped by a game warden. Very few if any states allow nighttime "jack-lighting" for any kind of game. The Permit regs will usually have regs on start and stoop time, normally daybreak and sunset. Remember all of the Commandments of safety, especially the "Know your target AND what is behind it". Good luck.

Are you saying you're going to kill coyotes and jackrabbits for fun from the comfort of your vehicle? If so, is this what you call "hunting"? I stopped hunting back in '76 for reasons of my own, but I still know quite a few real hunters and true sportsmen. None of us would ever consider shooting an animal from a vehicle. That's just not kosher.

And if you don't get out of your vehicle, what are you gonna do with the carcasses of any animals you kill? Just leave 'em laying out there. What'll you do if you only wound one...just leave it to die and drive on to the next spot?

It really sounds to me like you've recently bought some kind of gun and you just want to kill something with it.

...can you shine a light out of your car at night to spot?

You can read a brief synopsis of California game laws regarding coyote hunting at night here. I suggest you read it very carefully. They're pretty convoluted.

Personally, I think hunting from a car with a spotlight is just...wrong. In any state, under any circumstances, or for any reason.
