I recently bought a real nice Model 57 with a box in near perfect shape. What do I need to do to keep the box that way ? Wax on the exterior ? Anything to help the blue lining ? I see some on auction sites that look as tho the pistol wore a hole in the lining, I'll store the gun in a good rug.
Thanks for the help -

many store the gun seperate from the presentation case although a gun rug can hold moisture....i have a number of n-frames in the wooden presentation case that have been there 35+years with no problems....we have a member here that restores the lining of the cases and does a great job

Ditto on kennyb. I put a couple packs of desicant under the bottom insert to help absorb any humidity they may be in the air when I put them away after having one or more of them out. The packs are replaced whenever I open the case. They are cheap, and you can buy them by the bag on the popular auction site.

If you want to save the outside from scratches and dings, wrap the case in newspaper. Buy some large heavy duty rubber bands to hold the paper in place.

Thanks for all that. I live in coastal South Carolina, a nasty place for storing things that don't like humidity. I'll get some of the desiccant packs to put in the box. I usually wipe a very thin layer of oil on the blued guns before they go into the safe, I wasn't sure how that would affect the blue lining. Thanks for the info on the re-lining, too.

If you don't want to stain the inside with gun oil, you can do one of two things. One, store the gun in a cardboard box. Two, store the gun in the case, but, wrap it in a good gun paper and place a piece of plastic under the gun.
