Is anyone making reproduction or replacement inserts for wooden presentation cases?

If not , does anyone think they would be a good seller?

Been talking to a small thermoforming company I used to work for and bouncing the idea off them. Don't think it's a patented item. I can make the molds and form them from a good thick flocked blue polystyrene.

I believe member jcelect does.

Here's some info he's posted.

This is what the above pictured case will look like when restored! Please email if interested? [email protected]

That is something I have also been thinking about. They could be molded from thin fiberglass and flocked. A lot of the cases I see have cracked liners. I believe they would be good sellers. Good luck with the vacuformed plastic, that would be cheaper to form. Bob

I have a few to spare. They are factory inserts for 6 inch revolvers with the barrel facing right. The tool compartment has the covered lid.Send me a PM if interested.

Plastic Inserts for Presentation wood case

Looking for 6 inch, 4 inch and 3.5 inch

I've made inserts for two presentation cases of mine; one for a 3-1/2" N-frame, and another for a 6-1/2" N-frame. I purchased styrofoam for the bottom inserts and foam rubber for the top inserts at the hobby shop, and the blue flannel fabric at the sewing yardage store. I fashioned the bottom insert to the shape of the particular revolver. It was fairly easy and the results were acceptable, but certainly not to the level of quality of the originals or those redone by jcelect.

As far as I know, there aren't any commercial aftermarket inserts available for the original S&W mahogany presentation cases, though I've heard jcelect can restore originals and can, perhaps, make replacements to order.

I think if some entity were to manufacture a replacement insert in the various frame sizes and barrel lengths, they would sell to those of us who have a case with inserts that have deteriorated or fallen apart. If you need replacement inserts, contact forum member jcelect and see if he can help you. I know he has helped many forum members with their particular needs.
