Hello, I just got a 629-3 classic dx that came with this presentation case. I didn’t think it was supposed to come with a presentation case. I flipped the foam and found that it’s cut for a square butt. I’m thinking that it is for an 8 3/8 barrel. Pictured is a 6” model 25. Also, I’ve never seen a presentation case with this type of foam in it. Can anyone shed some light on this case?

The presentation you show was not typical of those that were standard equipment with the N-frame revolvers back in the day. It may have been used for a limited edition revolver of some sort, but likely just an aftermarket accessory offered by Smith & Wesson as a universal case for their revolvers.

I am almost certain it did not come from the factory with your revolver.

The case you have was offered in the 90s by Smith & Wesson. It was not shipped with any model of S&W. Later, the cutout for the stock panel and cylinder was deleted.

It's still a pretty cool-looking case. Perhaps you could get some new foam and whatever they use to cut it with (hot knife?) and use it for something else, S&W-related? Looks fun for crafty people.
