Mods: If this belongs elsewhere please move. My apologies.

I am certain I shouldnt even ask this and go down this rabbit hole but I am going to anyways..... I fear how this will end......

I have never cared about boxes with guns. If they came with a gun, great, but it wasnt something I required nor wanted to pay additional for. Now that I have accumulated a couple I feel the need to make them "right". A 4" 27-2 I have came with a presentation box that has a red cloth liner that is clearly not factory. Honestly I am not even sure the case is original to the gun other than its for a 4" N frame. It has the gun facing right and has the little compartment with the cover for the tools. What should this case interior look like for 1979-80 era model 27?

The type of case shown in post #2 is correct for a 27-2 shipped in 79-80.

Thank you Bill. Point of clarification please. 5th edition guide page 69 states in the 1978-81 cases the gun barrel points to the left. Mine clearly points to the right as does the the poster above. Are there 2 versions of this case or did we find a correction for the 6th edition?

The revolver faces to the right in these cases. There is another incorrect statement about these cases as well. They were not flocked. This will get some different opinions but why would there be double sided tape around the base. It held the rubber backed cloth that rotted away. Be careful if you have flocked flexible foam against your gun. It will eventually crack.

The wood presentation box or original carboard box with tools and papers is just as important as the gun to me. I have a couple dozen In wood boxes. Think they go both ways. Got a buddy every time he buys a hand gun he throws away the box and paper work and puts it in a zip up soft gun case. Drives me insane. LOL

The presentation case shown in the first photo was used from 1979 through 1985. The revolver points to the right. It replaced the case shown in the second photo that was used beginning in 1975. The revolver points to the left. The third case shown dates from 1969-1974. The inserts of the three cases are covered with the original material.

Beecher, I have a 25-2 61/2 45 ACP Pinned, blued, mint, pointing to the left in the wood case with tools, same material and color as in your picture. SN N-66777. It also has the same smooth grips in your picture. I am confused. help! :)
I don't know the answer to your question. The 25-2 in my picture has a 6" barrel and is from 1980. Also, the toolbox lid is not covered with the blue.

Others have pointed out the correct style case. Below is case and all that came with my 80ish 29-2. I'm original owner. Forum elite jcelet was gracious enough to give me advice on how to do it myself. That is, re-lining the case after the original material disintegrated.
