Hi, Just bought a 66 no dash in presentation case. Any ideas for or against long term storage in the case? Thanks.

I strongly recommend you not store the revolver in the presentation case. There are several reasons why not: 1. Moisture may be retained and cause rust/corrosion(66 is stainless steel but can rust and corrode too); 2. the gun and the case can be degraded if stored together...rub marks on gun and holes worn in case lining; 3. If you keep both in best condition they're worth more money when sold.

Congrats on your 66.

Always store guns & cases individually. Store the gun in an acid free pouch and the case in it's original cardboard wrap. Put both in a humidity controlled vault, with back up generator/battery to run the A/C when power fails. Ed.

Thanks You kindly Gentlemen. I had an idea this would be the kind of advice I would receive. But as a newbie I wanted recommendations from experienced collectors.

I don't mean to be a stick in the mud, I'm thinking the model 66 never came in a presentation case. The model 27,29 and 57 all did, if I'm wrong, please correct me.

Not at all Sir. This would be information I would love to verify. Any other ideas from the forum? And thanks kindly.

I have a model 27 in a presentation case I purchased new in 1979 and I keep it and all of my firearms in their respective cases, but I also keep silica gel packs in them to keep moisture out. I keep all of the packs from electronic devices and change them regularly.

I have seen commemorative model 66's with presentation cases that appeared to go with the gun. A quick look at the SCSW confirms some commemorative 66's were packaged with presentation cases.

I recommend NOT storing the revolver in the presentation case. I have seen blue and nickel finish guns stored in presentation cases develop finish issues that appear likely due to the flocking or glue used to secure the flocking. Maybe a stainless finish would not be susceptible to damage from the flocking or glue? Not storing the gun in the presentation case may also help preserve the flocking and the insert?
