Press for Priming

+1 on the RCBS Rockchucker attachment.

Found myself having to prime 200 45acp cases while my progressives were set up for other calibers. Dug out the old green gadget and flew through the process. Good leverage and sensitivity.

Lee Load-All is another fall-back I use.

My hands are quite stiff, age and various injuries. I used a Lyman hand primer for many years until my hands started to bother me.
I don't like the single stage press primer feeds because they get in my way (stiff fingers). But I read a comment somewhere about the Lee and Lyman hand primer systems being not very ergonomic, the design does not fit the hand which slips around.
So, rather than suffer I tried the Hornady & RCBS. I would suggest that anyone with this problem try the Hornady. It has a comfortable grip, hand doesn't slip, and the pull is like a grip exerciser. I can do a couple of hundred cases with mine and don't have any after effect. The RCBS is much better than the Lyman but not as comfortable for me as the Hornady.

Priming with the press certainly works OK, but there are a couple of advantages to using a hand priming tool. First, it allow you to feel the primer being seated and gives feedback on how much pressure is being applied to the primer. A press has so much leverage that it is difficult to know if the primer is being seated properly or has been crushed. Secondly, it lets you get away from the press. I can move the priming operation to the porch, living room or virtually anywhere. When I traveled over night, I would carry along an ammo can of unprimed cases and prime them at night sitting around the motel room. I probably haven't primed a case using the press in 40 years.
