Pressure Washer Problem

A friend has a problem and doesn't think anyone here can solve it.

His problem:

My Deere pressure sprayer uses a Honda GX200 (6hp?) engine. I crank It up and runs fine, if I walk away even for 20 seconds I shut it down ( I lost a pump during a short conversation once (overheat).
I tried a restart and pull rope would only unreel about 6".

This has happened before but always works after leaving it sit overnight.
Oil reservoir is full (ruling out seizing).
I have taken off the starter coil and rope is fine and snaps back nicely.

Anybody seen this before. you Tube doesn't address this.
Any small engine forums you used? It doesn't fire bullets so S&W forum is out.

Sounds like hydraulic pump pressure is keeping the gas engine from turning over with cord. Is there a pressure release mechanism? What about just turning off the water and squeezing the trigger on the wand?

The fact that it works properly after sitting awhile allows the pressure to bleed off slowly.

...what dave said, tho some small engines seem to do the old 'vapor lock' routine, when shut down, hot. Sitting overnite would also work for that, too.

If the pressure/compression relief doesn't work, might be worth checking the engine housing for free air flow around fuel supply circuit.

I have also seen a reerse type problem on a Briggs & Stratton engine where the carb was leaking gas from the float area to the combustion chamber. Turn it off, it would crank right back up. Let set over nite and you had to pull the spark plug and turnover to clear the cylinder. A simple gas cutoff valve in the line between the tank and carb and running it dry keep it in use til grass season was over then rebuilt carb.
