Price Check Model 19 2.5"

Howdy folks,

Health issues have curtailed my collecting for most of the last year, so unfortunately I haven't kept up with the market as I normally would. Happy to say I'm getting my feet wet again and eager to add a new Smith or 3 to the safe.

What would you fine folks reckon is a fair price these days for a Model 19 2.5", blued of course, in near excellent condition? I'm awaiting more details from the seller, but it appears to have no issues aside from a very faint turn line on what appears to be all original bluing. One of the details I'm awaiting is the specific designation, -2, -3, etc, which I know is obviously a factor, but my best guess from the photos is that it is indeed an earlier pinned and recessed model. No box or docs unfortunately. A nice 2.5" has been on my wanted list for a long time, so naturally this one local to me caught my attention.

I just got a nickel 19-3 snub from Cabelas (of all places) for just under $500 with discounts and dickering. It was a good deal and I was lucky to be in the right place for once.

I would think a 19-5 would also be a "must buy" at 500, and a "maybe" at 600 or more. I'd pass at 700.

Hmm you Cabelas still negotiate? The ones around me stopped doing so the first of the year and blame it on bass pro. Sure wish I could find one for that price. The Fort Worth Cabelas has a 19-4 snub but wants $900 for it and won't budge.

A nice P&R 2.5 inch 19? I haven't seen one for sale lately, last ones I did see were $800-$900 asking price at gun shows. Last one I actually bought was a nickel 19-3 for $541. . . .seven years ago. You might also consider a 2.5 inch 66 as they turn up a little more frequently than the 19s at least where I shop. Maybe a little less expensive too, but not much. Good luck.

I got a pristine 19-6 for just over $600 a few months ago. I figure it was worth about $700 in that condition.

I tnink the 19-4 was the last one that is p&r. Seems the value starts to drop a little with the 19-5. They are all great.

This is correct for my area also. They seem to be going up fast also. A P&R in excellent condition gets closer to 850.00-900.00.

FWIW, I saw 2.5"19-5 at last weekend's gun show. It was a 90-93 percent example with Eagle Secret Service grips and a brass insert in place of the usual red front sight insert. Been on his table at the past several gun shows - $725. I also saw very nice 2.5" 66-1 with mangas for $795.

I picked up a blue 2 1/2 here in CA a year or so back for somewhere around $600. I thought it was a very fair buy, especially for Ca. Gun only, very nice shape.

You can't go wrong with any Model 19's, especially the snubbies.
Stay with the no dash to 19-4 if you want P&R.

Here is mine I picked up a few months back for $500. Prices seem to be about $500 to $850 depending on condition, box,docs etc. Happy hunting.
