LGS has one, just in. S/N 8K88 range, i.e., 1975. No issues with this gun. No price on tag. LGS says it is on consignment and asks $1,300.00. Seems a tad spendy to me at that price, but it is a complete unspoiled package and serial number on gun matches end label on correct box. What say you? What's a realistic price to negotiate toward? Thanks!

SCSW 4th says $700.00 for a 19-3 ANIB + 25% for the 2-1/2 inch barrel, which would put it at $875.00.

I recently bought a 19-3, w/ box, tools, documents, waxed paper. I think everything that would have come w/ it. I could see on the recoil shield that it had been fired. Maybe just factory tested?
It doesn't have any finish wear at all. (little bit of turn ring)
I paid $850 plus state tax to get it. (I wasn't going to tell anyone what I paid for it :)
It's a beauty and I'm glad I have it.
I'm not sure I'd have paid any more for it, but then again maybe I would have. I don't see them in this kind of condition for sale very often.

That package sounds nice; but IMO anything over a $800-850 is overpriced for a 19-3 no matter how nice. Of course I can say that because, I've got a couple "really nice" P&Red 4" and 2 1/2" 19s as safe queens (w/o boxes) plus "nice" shooter grade counterparts.

But then again a full package will/could be very hard to come by........ short barreled 19s were mostly bought in the 70s as " Police duty guns" or in some cases "sock drawer" guns.... very few of which would still have the boxes and "stuff".

So IMO it's really a personal choice ...... how bad do you want it? how much of a premium are you willing to pay for the box and stuff? How many if any meals will your kids miss?

Vic, ask yourself when was the last time you saw a package like that one, and when will you see another one in like condition.
If you are going to try and flip it in a year or two, it's overpriced. Now, if you are going to hang onto it I'd go $1,150.00 max. But, I am sometimes willing to pay a little more for something I want NOW.
Keep us posted.

$1,000. would, IMHO, be about right...... As suggested, it seems the owner is looking for retail, and the gunshop is looking for their 30%.
If ya gots to have it, offer $1,100. and let them discuss who gets what, and don't look back. At $1,300. I think it is going to be sitting there for a while. Put the offer in and hope for a call in a month or two.

Edit: Just saw what 'old bear' suggested and I agree 100% with his thinking.....

That's getting into 66 no dash territory. Around these parts that blue package is worth about $950 to a grand. A nickel gun might fetch $1100 - $1200.

I was hoping you would jump in on this one,Ken. I based my numbers on selling within our circle at the Atlanta shows which I sell to more often than not. I've seen some pretty crazy ASKING prices around but they usually go home with the owner. I believe you are spot on for this market. The last one I bought was in Cartersville a few years ago and it came from the curator of the museum there. $650!! I actually turned him down at the show, but after I came to my senses the next day I called him and drove up to make the deal. He was liquidating some of his NOS to finance martially marked SA Army's. Got a free tour of the museum and lunch. I know that is the exception rather than the rule. That one is staying with me.

Here's my track on the model:

Smith & Wesson 19-5 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (39th Edition) indicates between $325 in 95% condition and $650 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 146 recorded prices for this model gun from $395 to $1225 over a period of 8 Yrs 4 Mos ending July 20, 2018. The average price as of that date was $633. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $457. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 5/21/2017 range from $525 to $960 averaging $724.

Based on the data I have, the fact it's got all the stuff and that it's the last of the pinned and recessed versions, I'd say that was a good price.

That price seems a bit stiff to me. I am with the $1,100.00 crew on this.
I saw a 19-4 snub that was advertised as never fired, no box etc. sell for $1,000.00 here locally about two months ago.
I would never had coughed that much up for it though.
19 & 66 snubs are getting very pricey though.

I have observed your data tracking in the past and it usually seems to be realistic and valid. My question is the geographic area you use. I'm guessing it's across the USA.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks. You are correct. The geographic area for most of the prices are wherever the auctioned lots come from, mostly gunbroker's. Some are from gun forums—like this one—and from wherever the sellers come from. Same with internet searches. Local prices are Maine & NH. some VT. Massachusetts is not a good source for sales.

Not seeing any 2 1/2" pre lock k frames for under $700 around here in any shape. I've been hearing the revolver market is down, but I guess that's only when I'm trying to sell something. While I think $1300 is a little high, If you got to have that whole package, than I guess that what it's gonna take. My problem would be I'd be shooting that thing 5 minutes later and would have it down to a $700 shooter in a week. I can't be trusted with a rock.

BlueRidgeBoy, make them an offer and have them contact the consigner with your offer. The worse he can say is no. And the shop might come down on their commission. Good luck!

Here are a couple 19-3's from the early 70's $500/650, top to bottom.

BTW, they were purchased 4 years ago.
