I've run across a pre-Model 29 in used condition and need some help from more experienced collectors.

The gun has a 6.5" barrel. It is a 4-screw model. It is blued with about 80%-85% finish remaining. The original Cokes are gone and the gun wears Frazite replacements. There in no box or papers. A tooled leather holster is included.

The gun is fairly tight, no cylinder wobble or movement, and no dings or scratches. The blueing wear is what I would expect on a gun that was carried during 15+ deer seasons.

The asking price is $875. Should I take this pre-29?

In that shape I think I would pass unless it just screamed at me. If it had the right grips (even dinged up) I would pay that.

Depends on what you intend to do. Obviously it is not really valuable from a collector's stand point but it would be cool as a shooter. On the other hand a later 29-2 in nice shape for the same money more or less would make a better shooter.
Just my .02
