Rather large show in Charlotte this weekend. Not as crowded as it used to be. Lots of new plastic firearms. Nice pre owned were few and far between. Those that I did see that were nice had some healthy prices attached to them. Or at least I think they were. Here's 3 examples. Please tell me if my thinking is off or is the new current market price?

Two of these were lightly fired with correct boxes:
M43 no dash 3 1/2" barrel $1175
M37 dash? 3" barrel $765

Claimed unfired M10-5 SB 2" barrel $875

What does the S&W folks think?

I guess it just depends (Pun intended). It seems that the bigger the show, the higher the prices. At a small local show last year I picked up a no-dash 3" nickel model 37 for $425 and this weekend a nickel 4" 10-5 with box. Asking was $550 but I got it for $475. There was also a 17-2 asking $750; the guy said he would let it go for $600, but I was out of cash.

I assume it must be different around here. Just returned from a little 100 table Hill Country show.
686 4" $400
19 Blue 4" in the box $650
13 Blue 4" in the box $650
34-1 Blue 4" Flat Latch RB $675

many more Smith's this is just what I can remember

I keep telling my bride we need to move to Texas. And she's a Texan!

I never have seen a "deal" at any gun show.

Yea, me neither. I enjoy going and just went to one with about 500 tables in Fond du Lac, WI. Lots to look at but no "deals" as far as the guns I am interested in.

A 4 inch 686 for $400 would have probably forced me to buy.:)

The little shows lately have just been fewer tables with high priced guns. But like I said, I enjoy going and looking.

Those prices are SUPER high IMHO. I would have kept walking.

That's exactly why I haven't been to a gun show in years and why I don't go to them anymore. They're just silly.

Tulsa is twice a year, generally April and November.

One of the issues with high prices is haggling. If you feel like doing it this can be an enjoyable experience for all...not me. On the good side, if you believe the general trend of Tulsa prices my collection is worth at least 40% more than I thought ;).

Is anyone buying at these prices or do the sellers just hope to find someone unaware? What's the point of paying for a table, hauling all your stuff and setting around all weekend if you don't sell?

We've been going to gun shows for a long time. We sit and talk with our friends. And we hike the shows, sometimes buying bargains if we see one. We even have been known to pick up some jerky from time to time. I don't see giving things away as a good idea. If anyone doesn't want to pay my price, they're free to walk on. I even suggest it to some who are indignant. I try to price my junk in line with what others have on their similar items.

If you don't think the prices are unfair, feel free to bring your prizes in and sell them for what you suggest is a good deal. The one good test of fair pricing is if you'd sell your identical gun for the same price. If you suggest that its too cheap for you to sell, then its too cheap for me, too.

At almost every show I attend, I find a "deal". Not always on guns, often on ammo or accessories. I may have to walk an entire 400 table show to find one good item on one table. If you can't find one, its more likely because you don't know current pricing or availability. Part of my advantage is that I don't really "need" anything.

aroind here, most the folks with tables are there to buy guns not sell them. They price the bait high so it most likely won't sell and if it does, they do very well on them.

Thank you for the perspective. Until recently any show I went to was to look for a new firearm. Until the last 4 or 5 months I never looked for pre-owned guns. Since that is all I look for now I'm trying to get a handle on what's what so to speak. As far a needing a gun I guess I'm like you. I don't really need any of them. I've come to this hobby very late in life and am attempting to understand the pricing aspect of it.
I seem to have struck a nerve with you and maybe others. That's not my intent. My intent is to truly understand the sellers motivation. If the merchandise is priced higher than market value and it doesn't sell why is the seller there? I enjoy the window shopping so to speak but this weekend I also had a pocket full of money that I brought home with me. I guess all I'm saying is I would have gladly left it with some one if they had be a little reasonable.
