This might sould be in anouther forum on this site. sorry.

I'm on a trip north of chicago. I found a gun shop in the town of Lincolnwood, IL, just north of Chicago. I held a case of large rifle primers in my hand, but they would not sell them to me, because I'm not law enforcement.

I was told it was illegal to sell me pistol primers, so they were just scared to sell me the rifle primers. It was illegal to sell me any pistol or pistol ammo component.

I asked to see a M60. It was illegal to sell that to me. They didn't even want to show it to me. It was for law enforecement only.

I asked what people do about conceled carry. I was told nothing. It is illegal to own a handgun. It is illegal for the sales guy to have one in his home. He told me that a local can apply for a shotgun permit to keep in your home, but fat chance on actully getting one. He told me that the county that Chicago is in was the murder capital of the world.

My rights have certainly been violated. Is this what BHO has in store for the rest of the country? I can't wait to get back home to Alabama.

It does not suprise me. The powers to be are going to either take your guns if they can, or make it so you either can't afford to buy ammo or reload it. Also there are several states that are wanting to serialize ammunition to make it traceable. With that they want you to destroy any other ammo in your possesion. Like Mr. Heston said they can have mine when they pry my cold dead hands from it. We all need to stick together on this and stop any bickering among our own and stand united to make sure our rights are still there for our grandchildren and their children.

illinois is one of the most lunatic-left states in the nation. the trial lawyers are out of control. the politics are so crooked that when politicians die, they have to be screwed into the ground. there is NO CCW at all. any firearm ownership requires a state ID card.

this is the environment in which our "savior" felt right at home.

now we are going to be forced into paying for "400 years of oppression". can't wait.

Duckloads,

Sounds like you were at Shore's; and without a FOID they probably figured nuts to you.

The LE-only routine was or is a pile of hooey.
Unless things have changed radically in the
last year or two or three.

They might have tagged you as a straw purchaser for a set-up by Daley's people.

Yep. They asked for my driver's license just to look at a M60. Of course it wasn't for sell to me. That was before I asked about the primers. They knew I was from Alabama. They had some other stuff I would have bought, but screw them.

Do you know of any place else in the area to get primers and other supplies?

You might try Phil's Village Sports on Central Rd.
at Busse Rd. in Arlington Heights. But I
can't guarantee you they have any primers in
stock.

Place does do a lot of reloading business.

I second Phil's village sports. I shoot a bulls-eye winter league with the man and he's a standup guy.

Don't feel bad about where you went. Over 25 years ago I was a Lake County Sheriff shopping at that store and I got treated like a turd on the street even with LEO ID and FOID. I have never been in the store since but a lot of my friends are LEO's and say it hasn't changed. They have been in business for a long time and I think they survive on LE department orders and LE purchases. They probably feel safe (with the IL. gun laws) selling to LE and would rather not deal with the average Joe. The rude treatment is a tradition and at no extra cost to the customer

, and the not selling primers to you is total BS.

Not all gun shops here are like that, there are lots of real nice guys that will help you out if they have the stock to sell.

That is what makes them just as big of a nazi as the local politics. They chose NOT to sell to me, because they were "afraid to". Good grief.

Thakks for the tip on Phil's. I'll try to look him up.

Well it's official. Illinios is a nazi state. thanks to some adise given and a few phone calls, I found some primers. LP, SP, and LR. When I went to pay, I was told without a particular card, I could not buy these. the only way to get this card was to be a resident of IL. So, NOBODY from out of state is allowed to by ammunition or components in IL.

In fact, I was told it was illegal, for anyone without THE CARD, to even hold ammo or components. So, I stood there in the store and held on to the primers as long as I could AS A CRIMINAL and then left in discust.

This is insane.

That card is the

Firearms Owners Identification Card.

It's been in Illinois about 25 or 30 years.

If the law reads, or was changed to read, that
out-of-state folks can't buy without an FOID, that's not the dealers/shops fault. Where you
found the primers, I hope you were polite and
understood their plight--their licenses are on
the line every day and they are regularly tested
by straw purchase (police) attempts.

I was as polite and frustrated as I could possibly be. I called approximately 5 places looking for primers. EVERY time I told them I was from Alabama and was in the area on business.

One of the guys told me that he couldn't price the primers over the phone, but he stated that he could sell them to me, when I asked. The guy last night was real nice and even gave me directions from my hotel to his store.

So, why should I have been the one who should have been polite? I'm the one who spent 2-3 hours of phone and travel time just to be told NO at the time of purchase.

One thing I'm not clear about: It seems you are visiting the Chicago area. Why this mania for finding primers, spending so much time on it?

I can understand your frustration if you can't find any in Alabama, but why put the heat on out-of-state dealers.

It seems obvious the Illinois shops/dealers have done a better job at procuring primers. Why not
put pressure on your Alabama dealers/shops to learn a thing or two from those in Illinois?

If I were a shop owner in Illinois, regardless of the law, I think I'd be reluctant to sell to an out-of-stater. I'd feel a responsibility to my loyal and regular customers.

Enjoy your stay.

The FOID card in Illinois was started in 1968 along with the US 1968 Gun Control Act (after Bobby Kennedy was shot). I beleive that all states had to have the ID card system back then because of this 1968 Act but only IL and I beleive one other state has kept it. The other states figured out a long time ago that it didn't cut into reducing the crime rate by registering the LEGAL gun owner.

I have seen people from other countries (not states) buying firearms and ammo at Cabela's in Hoffman Estates. I got stuck in line behind a fella from the Ukraine that was buying a Rem 870. The only ID he had was from his home country and I believe that he had to wait 30 days before he could pick up the shotgun but I may be wrong about that time period. I have seen other people buying ammo and components at other stores and all they had to do was show an ID from their home state proving that they were over 21.

Peolpe at the stores must be concerned about a set-up from the IL. State PD since BO and Daley have more power that ever before.

It's up to the illinoise people to vote in the next elections and take care of their state.[/QUOTE]

Well, with Quinn as our Governor it seems like he's trying to clean up a lot of wrongs in the state but I have my doubts he will make any dents in it. The state is controled by the libs in Chicago and no matter what the down staters and other people want Daley and his boys always seem to get their way. Funny as how the Chicago mayor has laughed in the face of the Supreme Court decision keeping Chicago the gun free murder capital in the US. I guess all of the dearly departed people that still vote in Cook County are just anti-gun stiffs!

Are you joking? The only thing to learn about Illinois is that it is a very liberal/communist like state. The politicians are a bunch of corrupt idiots. We do not and cannot let the US look like Illinois, Russia, Canada, France, etc. etc. So don't just sit there and brag on how smart you guys are over there in Illinois, just because you live there.

Mark1967,

The "quote" regarding pressure on Alabama shops/dealers is out of context---a preceding sentence
indicated that somehow Illinois shops do have primers and Alabama ones apparently do not.

And, by the way, I'm not one of the "you guys over in Illinois." I just happen to have shooting friends there and am familiar with its gun history. Well, now I have to pack for a vacation
in Gary.
