Primers: Where They ??

CCi's website still lists #400 SRPs at $62/1000 suggested retail, #500 SPPs are $54. So that means CCI is selling them to the wholesaler/retailer for less than that. It's not the mfg. doing the screwing, it's the retailers (like Midway e.g.) jacking their prices way beyond the usual markup. Supply and demand, if they can get it, ya know...

That's the way it's been on all stuff in the firearms industry. The retailers in the firearms industry claim to be "one of us", but try to rip our heads off on price and then claim its "just business". I remember a few years ago during one of the ammo scares, CTD did crazy pricing increases and everyone said they would never buy from them again. CTD is still in business and doing fine. I think from that many retailers learned that they can do whatever they like if there is a perceived shortage.

Ammo is starting to fill the shelves, and so the price is coming down. Looks like its going to be awhile longer for reloading components to start filling the shelves. But at least we are headed that way.

Since January of 2020 to now S&W has increased the MSRP price of a 686 15%, the retail price has increased 38%.

everybody claims inflation, but its what, 8%ish? so since we see so many items up 10-20% or more a year, what items, materials, or industries are gettng cheaper, to bring about only 8%ish inflation on average?

I've been waiting to buy small pistol primers large pistol primers and powder all in the same order.
I have occasionally seen large primers and some powder but seldom what I need at the same time. I am willing to pay higher prices to to get by but I refuse to pay hazmat and shipping on each component. I'll shoot what I have and wait. When prices and supplies are reasonable I will restock.

Guys, we have been going around in circles for years now on the price topic. You are just going to get yourselves sick over it.

Maybe we should get back on topic as to where the primers are and not why they cost what they do.

The official rate of inflation as determined by the government is based on an average of items the government picks. The official inflation number can actually be quite different from what consumers see at the retail level. The government does not include energy prices in their inflation index, but energy costs, and that includes gasoline and diesel, is far beyond the stated 8% inflation.

Primers are showing up. Steadily becoming more available. The reason they are not becoming a normal stock item? Actually I think that is our fault. They hit the shelves and we buy'em. And because their is no restraint on the buyers behalf the Bigger retailers are truly taking advantage of us the end users. Yep..not right but we have to accept part of the blame. We pay the higher prices willingly. There are a few retailers charging regular prices but their supply is small compared to the big sellers. Even I can buy primers at wholesale... Just not a normal supply. My wholesale supplier is not getting the supply yet.. so neither am I. I used to buy a minimum of 100,000 to as many as a half million...and I was a smaller dealer. Things will get back to somewhat normal... When the buyers appetites are appeased. Happened before... It'll happen again.. But don't expect prices to be what they were before.

If they ever get down to $50/1,000, I'll start buying some. Until then, I'll do what I have done lately and shoot a lot of .22 ammo when I go to the range for my weekly session.

At the Canadien Tire in Lethbridge, Alberta this was over heard last week.
"We had some pistol primers in Monday but the're gone now. The word is that rifle primers are held up at the border".

OK, we are done here.

I asked for the posts to stay on topic and that didn't happen.

There is a new thread going here on the same topic, where the primers are. Please use that one and stay on topic.
