Im looking specificly for small pistol primers and they are gone everywhere... just for clarification, im reloading .40 S&W so small pistol is what i would need correct?

Maybe you need to read the ABC's of Reloading book along with some reloading manuals first.
They'll tell you about primers and things.

If you're in Ohio I imagine Fin, Feather and Fur in Ashland has some. Same for The Sportsman's Den in Shelby. Vance's in Columbus and Buckeye Outdoors in Hebron usually run out at times like this although they do get stock regularly so you may want to call first. Dan Aumiller's Gun Shop in Westerville has some no doubt, but Dan's a grumpy old cuss so tread lightly.

You can use small rifle primers instead of small pistol primers. They work just as well for me, and I have used them in .38 Special, .38 Super, and .357 Magnum for many years to simplify logistics. No significant difference in MVs. May not work so well in some autopistols with less energetic firing pin springs.
I can tell you one thing for certain, here in Western PA the run on small and large pistol non-magnum primers started during the summer. First the CCI's went missing, then Winchester and now not even Federal are available. The LGS's I usually get all my primers from have nothing but rifle primers and a few 209 shotgun primers left on the rack after last week.
Checked Powder Valley, Natchez, Graf & Son, Midway, and a variety of smaller online vendors- S-O-L for small pistol at this time. Luckily, I have a decent stock for my winter reloading, but I hope to be able re-stock sooner or later. I may try some small rifle primers in my .357 mag loads with Unique and 2400 since neither require magnum primers.

I watched Grafs and PV for months, looking for Federal SP. During Thanksgiving, for just a couple of days, Grafs had them. I bought 5 bricks and some powder to add to my stash, free S&H (not free Haz Mat). I suggest in the future you bookmark the sites you shop and check them daily. When the items you want appear order them immediately, that minute. Buy all you can afford, or need for the future. Properly stored they will keep for a very long time.

Yes, powder and primers will keep. I still have some Federal primers dating from the mid-1960s that are still sure-fire, despite no special storage measures having been taken. And most all military .30 Carbine ammunition (which used non-corrosive priming) from WWII is also sure-fire. I have recently fired some Winchester .38 Special ammunition from the mid-1930s and it was sure-fire too.
I was at Cabelas today and they were out of small pistol primers in all brands. Went down the road to another Chicago land gun shop and was told that I would have to go upstairs and ask for them. They took them off the floor. I asked a sales guy for them and he replied "all gone". I went down another aisle and saw cases of them in the back. I asked another sales guy and his response was "what primer are you looking for?" I told him and bam out he comes with a case. Not sure why they were pulled from the shelves but I' m glad I asked the second guy. I've never seen so many gun and magazine sales as I did today.

Geez I didn't expect to get bombarded.. I'm a new reloader. I just got my press for Christmas. I apologize for not having a stockpile of primers like you pros have.

I'd have to say the same and go elsewhere if I was treated similarly. Sorry about the tone of some posts above.
I believe everyone is angry that we are repeating what happened 4 years when our President was elected the first time. Ammo disappeared, prices shot up, and it took 3 years for ammo to return to the shelves, and prices never went down. The same happened with reloading supplies - primers and powder mainly because manufacturers couldn't make enough of anything for the retail shelves of loaded ammo much less an excess for reloaders supplies. Now this election was having the same effect, but much less so than the first time - until the Sandy Hook School shooting in Conn. Now the cry for more gun control in the media has set the gun world on fire again.
I just started reloading about 6 months ago, and got lucky to be able to stock up a few months ago. I'm afraid the days of me shooting 200 rounds of 45ACP each week have disappeared for a couple of years with supplies non-existent to sustain that rate of consumption.
I hope you can find some supplies to be able to use your press.

M&P_Gunner, welcome aboard. The reloading hobby can be rewarding. Unfortunately, all Internet sights are out. Like duck32man says, you can find them at some retail outlets, particularly Mom and Pop.
Learn this lesson well. Some may call it hoarding, but I was without during the Clinton ban. It will never happen to me again. However, do not pay larcenous prices. Remember the retailers that are trying to steal from you and do not buy from them, now or in the future.

I too have just recently started reloading, and was fortunate enough to find a small supply of federal large pistol primers and a pound of unique powder at a local shop I frequent. The tough part in my area is the old AG in mass basically banned the online sales to private citizens here so I have to find everything locally, or seek out those retailers online daring enough to ship here. The current state of things does not make it any easier. So I feel your pain OP, hang in there.
Just watch the local stores and when they finally show up,buy in quantity.I'm still using powder and primers I bought after the 08 election.

I don't know your monthly round rate, or how much you want to stock. But back in 2009 after our president took office, Powder Valley eventually stopped taking primer orders since they were back-ordered 50,000,000. You might find them locally, but if I wanted to obtain some working inventory, I would place my order today, and patiently wait until they filled it.
