Prison Gangs.

good but scary article,

I really can't imagine...

I like to watch "Lockdown" and I get nervous watching them. I'm always amazed that to listen to these guys that they think they didn't do anything wrong and don't deserve the punishment. the guards don't get paid enough to have to put up with **** they have to deal with.

I don't remember the show but it was in a jail and they had the crips and bloods talking at each other. they were only separated by the cell bars. I would have liked to see a guard push a button and the cell bars just go up into the ceiling and see the look on the gangsters faces. let them sort things out on their own and then throw away the key on the survivors.

My wife has been watching a number of those prison shows. A recent one featured a gal who during routine traffic stop was asked if they could search her car, she say sure, I have nothing to hide, and they found some illegal drugs which she claims were not hers. From her appearance and demeanor etc it sounded believable and they did not get into details of whether it was her car or not or if anyone else used it or if she had passengers etc. And then they reveal that this is the third time she has been arrested for possession but only the first conviction.
Another guy they featured who was only serving a short sentence got beat up by a guy who claim he was a snitch but the first guy claims he had no idea who the guy was and never said anything to anyone. I don't know if they covered it in the show or no one will ever know but it could have been a mistaken identity or perhaps they saw him talking to a guard for 10 seconds in the yard one day and the other guy got his cell searched that same afternoon so they decided he must have told the guard something.
On the one hand it is interesting that prisons run more smoothly when the gangs are effectively in charge - but what a sad testament to society that such a condition should even be necessary. That's like saying ya know I used to have really bad headaches, until the brain tumor cut off the blood supply to the part of my brain that caused the headaches.

Hmmmm...After reading the article, plus watching various segments of Lockup, about the inner workings of a prison system, causes me to pause and think of the "What If", should there become a complete breakdown of of civil order on the so called outside.

Would the prisons soon empty, allowing all of the various offenders back out into our so called world? The social disorder, would be un-imaginable with these offenders back out into mainstream population. Would parts of our country become parts as portrayed in Escape from L.A. or Escape from New York?

Other posts here have addressed what "we" would do if there should ever a complete breakdown, be it either to a natural disaster, or man caused. But, after reading this, and knowing how large our prison population is, has any consideration been given to what "We" would do when and if faced with the possibility of such a large number of these people being thrown back amongst "us".

Shoot them on sight??? It sounds like bravado talk, but, in fact would it happen?

Would we revert back to Darwinism (sp), survival of the fittest?

Just more food for thought.

After I wrote the above, I got to thinking...(I know, me thinking again:confused:), but "What If"...one or two persons with this new Ebola thing was placed into the largest prisons.....Let nature take it's place??????? I don't think their cell phones would do them any good, trying to get some vaccine sent to them from the outside.

Back when...when I was still a LEO, it was easy to tell who was a ex con, by their tatoos. Now it seems as if everyone has them, it's a whole lot harder to figure out who is the ex con and who is some Jyreen, home on leave...Mom with a rose on the arm, or the name of their ship seems to be a thing of the past.

Some with the total body tatoos might be able to be identified as a ex con, but any more I wouldn't bet on it.

In the novel "Lucifers Hammer" a huge meteorite hits the ocean and a tidal wave hits L.A. A guard decides to shoot all the dangerous prisoners and release`s the rest. Once I worked with another guard who left our job to be a guard at Tehatchapi prison. Later I met him at a cosco store. He got carried away telling me how he could "smell" cons and started pointing out people around us he thought were cons. People were looking as he got vocal and I was happy to move on!
I had another friend that hired in with us after he retired from the sheriff`s dept as a detective. He had a motorhome that he had let his son take to mexico. When his son got back john was washing the camper and found a huge stash of drugs in the big bumper that holds the hose to pump the waste out. He was perplexed and mad! I couldnt help laughing as I could picture him possibly going to prison over it! I would have liked to have seen his "discussion" with his son!
I know a person in prison. Ever once in awhile he calls. It`s depressing. At times he is in fear for his life. Of course he claims he is innocent of the gross crime that got him there. I dont believe him but I take the call and listen. I believe he will die there unless he lives to his 80`s and he is young.

A buddy of mine was set on getting a job as a CO. That was until one of the inmates told him the name of his wife, kids, home address and a bunch of other things that scared him on his first day! He quit after his shift.

The thug/gangsta/ex-con look/fad is in.

I'm curious to see what these wanna bes do when they come to the realization that people don't take them seriously with their cool, neck, facial, and hand tattoos when they try to get a decent job or when/if they have contact with LE.

We see these freak shows everyday. What do these 16 and 17 year olds think they are going to do for a living the rest of their life? Why will parents let them get facial tattoo`s? I believe they should be denied any government financial help whatsoever. I resent my tax money being spent on the type. Where do they get the money for the tat`s? You see people on welfare with them.

Not to hijack, but I recently watched an hour long special detailing the activities of the Hell's Angels motorcycle gang. I had the impression that they were a semi-lawless and troublesome biker's gang, but turns out they are embedded into so many illegal ventures as to make a mafia Don blush. Very scary, indeed, as their power seems to grow unchecked, and law enforcement seems at least reluctant to get in the way.

Scariest place I've ever been in my life was when a state representative took my political science class on a tour with him through Florida State Penitentiary at Raiford and Union Correctional Center next door to Raiford. We didn't get the normal college class gloss over everything tour. We got the "Mr. Representative we need more money in the budget tour." There are some BAD people in those places.:eek::eek:

I find it disturbing that the US, which supposedly cherishes freedom, has the 2nd highest rate of incarceration in the world, behind North Korea.

You you rather we adopted the policies of some of the other more enlightened counties? A thief, cut off his hand and let him go. Stoning, whipping, caning, summary execution and a host of other punishments that would be considered cruel and unusual here help reduce the crime rate and prison population in those countries.

Which way would you prefer?

FBOP Retired, BTW.

Perhaps if we had our version of the Gulag, or camps for "Re-education through Labor" we might not have such a high incarceration rate. And why aren't we in 1st Place ? Two words-"Due Process".
We should find a tropical island, at least 100 miles from the coast, establish a completely self sufficient, perhaps self governing or at least self administered prison colony, anyone sentenced to five years or more to be sent there. Let them grow their own food, etc.
Prison gangs-let them prey on each other.
