Can anyone tell me about the Smith & Wesson 9mm Pro? I was thinking of getting one but I have never handled one and would like to get some feed back. Thanks in advance.
Frank.

There are 2 M&P 9Pros out there.

The 5" Pro is just that, 5" barrel, with a slightly better trigger feel to it and a set of fiber optic sites.

The 4.25" Pro has a shorter barrel but a set of Trijicon night sights. I have this model and it has been a great shooter. I love the sights but I don't think the trigger is that much better than any of my 3 other M&P autos.

Id say that if you are buying a Pro solely for the trigger it may not be worth it. You might be money ahead to buy a standard model and upgrade through using the Apex parts. but as an entire package with sights and trigger they are pretty good.

I wanted to add that I have going on 2000 rounds through my Pro in right at a year and it hasn't ever missed a beat!

If you are looking for night sights then the 4.25" is a great value, if they don't mean that much then the standard can be bought for less and the trigger upgraded. I have the 5" model and use it for USPSA and as a range gun, works great.

Ok , hope I don't get slammed for a dumb question but , Why does one have to go to after market parts from Apex to get a good trigger ? Why doesn't Smith & Wesson build it right from the get go ?

It's called Product Liabilty, Smith is not going to take the chance of a major law suit. That being said just order the Apex tactical Hard Sear trigger kit. I did and was it Awesome. Just a little work and it's perfect. Went form a factory 7-8 # pull to a very short, crisp, smooth 2 1/2-3 # pull. No gunsmithing at all. Just go to you tube and watch the vidieos one step at a time. Here is a link to it and more. Good Luck.

Triggers

I am not saying apex won't improve my triggers, but all of mine were built in 2012 and are pretty good. Check them at your LGS first. I have a Shield, 9FS, & 9C.

Not a dumb question at all.

1911s from well-regarded manufacturers are priced from approximately $600 (yes, I know, you can find something cheaper) to over $5,000 (Wilson Combat Supergrades). Any manufacturer chooses a price point and this selected price point will, in turn, drive the decisions on how a given 1911 will be built.

It simply costs more money to select high-end fire control parts and then have an expert pistolsmith hand-fit the trigger, sear, and hammer hooks.

I have 1911s at different price points, including the 9mm S&W Pro (5") and a number of Wilson 1911s. I consider the S&W 9mm Pro to be fairly priced for its overall quality and craftsmanship; it's a lot more than a $600 1911, but it's not a $5,000 1911. If you stay within the S&W product line, you can find a much nicer trigger on the Performance Center models ... along with a higher cost.

For me, I actually like the standard M&P triggers as much if not more than the Pro trigger. Some people want a more Glock-like feel and go the Apex route. I don't and won't, I think Smith did get it right straight from the box.

I own the M&P Pro 5" 9mm and a M&Pc 9mm - my Pro 9mm has a sweeter trigger....but no night sights. My only issue is that I need to get a set of night sights if I want to use this for another HD gun. Other than that - this Pro 9mm gun is my overall favorite! (Replaced a G19 and G23 as my training guns).

I have a 4.25 FS and a Shield so the Pro is not a necessity. I like the idea of a 5" sight radius and the new Pro's are supposed to have a better trigger from stock M&P's. That said, I like the trigger on my older FS but the trigger on the Shield is a big improvement. I would hesitate to swap out the trigger for the Apex as I want to shoot in the stock IDPA class. Thanks for all your feed back and I think I will be going for the 5"L and then decide what I will do with the FS.
Thanks, Frank.
