Pro and Cons Smith and Wesson .500 Revolver

You say you want it for hunting. Hunting what animals? To me the 500 is an awful lot of gun and unless you're going after big bears or moose probably a bit too much gun at that. If all you're hunting is deer anything between the .357 Mag or .44Mag is plenty good. Personally, I like the .41 Mag or in a semi auto the 10mm for deer or pigs. Either will drop them like a sack of spuds.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but, dead is dead isn't it? I'd try whitetail deer if I were going to hunt with mine.

OK, I think you are wrong. There is dead after the animal runs off far enough to make you give chase and drag it back. Or...there is DEAD RIGHT THERE. I prefer dead right there (DRT)

I have had head shots on hogs using my TC with 14" bull barrel and they got back up and ran. That will not happen with a 500mag using Underwood 350 grain fmj. 1912 fps. They are hog stoppers

I like them both just fine

My brother has a 8-3/8" .460. It's a pretty nice sidearm. I like that it will fire a .460, .454 Casull, and a .45LC. I don't have one yet, but am pretty fond of it. I have .500's in the form of 8-3/8", 6.5 ", and 4". I don't know why the porting on the 8-3/8" works so well, but it does. Very little recoil, pushes straight back like a mule. Both the 6.5" and the 4" have incredible recoil and are factory ported as well. The 6.5" trigger pulls back real easy too and the first time that I fired it, it recoiled back, my finger double clutched and launched another round as it was kicking back. Folks here post large pictures with their posts, but I only know how to use the "attachment" icon to attach photos. Attached are photos that show all three of my .500's and one that compares my 8-3/8" to my 8.5" .44 Rugar Redhawk as well as the difference in the size of the rounds.

Please excuse me but, what is your argument of using the S&W 500 for hunting within this context. Are you saying it does not kill well?

No, I am saying quite the opposite. The poster I was replying to had said the 500 was too much gun, not needed. I say the X-FRAMES will drop a big hog dead in its tracks better than any other hangun period.
